As I stated in the title, nothing will update without failing, I can give you as much more information as you need, and I will attach a screenshot of my problem.

1. Are you in the habit of running "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; CCleaner Registry Cleaner)?

2.System Restore.
Have you a System Restore point created PRIOR to when your problems started?

3. Clear out your temporary downloads file and internet cache to remove any corruption from there.

To delete temporary update files

Open Computer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Computer.

Double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed, typically drive C.

Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the SoftwareDistribution folder.

Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files and folders in the folder. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. Run a check disk on the computer just to make sure the hard drive is okay etc.

I have the same problem, and do run a registry cleaner- C Cleaner. You asked the question about these, but never clarified what problems they could cause. Could you elaborate on this?

Also, I am thinking of upgrading to windows 8 to see if that will fix the problem. Any thoughts on that?

First off - if you're having problems with an operating system, upgrading is only likely to make things worse rather than better

Secondly - please start a NEW thread of your own, and detail your own problems.

Thirdly ALL registry cleaners cause more problems than they solve.

Fourthly.... http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

Fifthly - you asked a question of a poster who is listed as banned, and so obviously cannot respond.
