No, I have no drives that are IDE installed. My SATA mode is set to AHCI mode.

I see, well, I have no IDE drives. Do I change that setting for the storage controller to AHCI if it's available?

That's about it, the rest of the settings are standard, as I didn't change anything other than the boot order. The only other thing I changed which you can see in the picture is the Realtek PXE OPROM. I put it to Disabled since I don't use it and my first black screen booted to that.

I did that, and still says no hard disk is detected when I restarted. I think there is no point in having it enabled as it is searching for something I have not set-up.

Should I disable it then?

I disabled it and saved.

When I restarted I saw the ASUS logo screen and it booted up straight to Windows.

Yeah, been using Windows now for 20 minutes since I restarted. Since I disabled it, nothing has changed. Still working like it did when it was enabled.

Should I just leave it like this and see if I experience another black screen? Could be awhile, since they don't happen often at all.

I can see all my drives under My Computer.

When I click properties on my C drive (which is my SSD), I see in the general tab:

Type: Local Disk
File system: NTFS

My used and free space and the capacity graph.

just a normal start and type cmd . when you get to the dos prompt type defrag and hit enter. it should show us the status of your partition on the ssd drive.if its in the list to defrag, thats normal. i am sure you know how to defrag a hard drive. i would recommend relaxing for a bit , let the computer rest. boot it up after it has rested. i'd like to know how it runs in a cold boot.

congratz
justmike

is their anything else i can assist you with?

I did that, it returned with: You do not need to de-fragment this volume.

Other things it said was Total fragmented space: 9%.

Yes, I use Puran Defrag and might do a boot time defrag too.

Ok sure, will do that tonight.

Thanks quester, hopefully disabling the Marvell Controller solves the black screen problem. I'll report back if it comes back again. Other than that the computer runs perfect (so it should, it's new).

Hi quester,

Left the computer off all night, so about 7-8 hours. Turned it on now, and still works as good as it was before.

Hopefully that ends the black screen drama.
