Massive Data Breech on PlayStation Network

Sony has finally come clean about the "external intrusion" that has caused the company to take down the PlayStation Network service, and the news is almost as bad as it can possibly get. The hackers have all your personal information, although Sony is still unsure about whether your credit card data is safe. Everything else on file when it comes to your account is in the hands of the hackers.

Read rest of story here. Looks like this is about as bad as it can get. If you have an account on there I recommend password changes to anywhere you may have reused it, probably give your CC company a ring too.

I use a debit card on there for my son. Now I feel kind of sick now. Just have to keep an eye on it.

MRValiant, if you want to be on the safe side, visit your bank and tell them you want a new card because of this, almost any bank would be happy to oblige.

i dont use ps3 anymore, i think it has really gone down hill in the last few years, PSN and hardware. I now PC game and try not to look back. But i left my details on the PSN store so god knows what's gonna happen now.

Old news. Sony is already issuing a year of ID theft protection to PSN account holders.

Yep, I own a PS3, and its a good thing I didn't put in my real address and credit card details on my account. I preferred using PSN cards whenever I topped up for points. I just hope Sony beefs up its security, and also prevent that "warning" of another attack from "anonymous".

Technically "old news" was I think I heard about it on the 4th so it wasn't really that old. It's just becoming repetitive to hear more and more stories about Sony and their troubles. lol.

I think the new issue just takes down the website for changing passwords. In the last breach, they got usernames and birthdates. Now, with that information, they can hit the new site, and change your password on you.

Im sure Sony has thought of that Scenario and put security in place so that does not happen.

We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.
Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.

wonder if this helped xbox live much, also apparently Japan still isn't allowing Sony to restore things there yet, until they prove they're secure.

I doubt Xbox really took off. Most consumers have too much invested in peripherals and games to just jump to another console. Besides, the Xbox 360's were notorious for hardware failures for their first few years. And the PS3 is a great BluRay player and the 360 doesn't provide that functionality at all.
