After troubleshooting a BSOD, I discovered that my chipset would not support a new USB 3.0 card I'd installed. (In fact it would not support USB 3.0 period). During troubleshooting, I restored the last working image (ShadowProtect). Flash gone at startup, but that's no problem. BUT I noticed that since them when I restart/startup, my two Dell monitors shut down for ten seconds during the boot routine. I'd read that this could be a driver problem. So I uninstalled the Matrox M9120 PCIe x16 driver and ran the machine VGA and the startup/restart display temp shutdown disappeared. Reinstalled the latest Matrox driver and, alas, the problem returned. Uninstalled latest driver and tried to install a legacy driver. Same thing. So it seems the problem is the driver or the card. Device mgr said device is working. At impasse. Even tried clearing all registry entries of Matrox with Revo uninstaller before reinstalling again the latest driver. No change. Thanks for the help.

Update: After a lot of troubleshooting and a discussion with the Matrox techs, it's clear that what is slowing down the machine and causing the temporary display shutdown during startup/restart are the external hard dives attached to the machine. So I'm going to mark this as solved and open a new thread.
