Media Center - can watch live cannot record

This just began recently. My scheduled recordings stopped working. I get a cannot find a tuner message. I can watch TV live, but, if I hit the record button, I get the same cannot find a tuner message. Ideas??

Go to services, scroll to your device and see if it is stopped.

I would also redo a channel scan.

While you're on that screen, click on Device Manager and make sure the tuner is still recognized. Also, check all your connections.

The tuner is working because I can watch live TV just fine. But, when I hit the record button while watching live TV, I get the cannot find tuner message. And, it wan't record scheduled programs. Are you suggesting the tuner stops when the record button is pressed?

That's probably Media Center. That's what I use.

No system specs. Without knowing your setup, we don't know that you ARE watching live TV through your tuner. Describe all your equipment and connections.

Hauppauge 950Q. Comcast is my net and TV provider. And Media Center is the only TV program I have. Connected by coax to an outlet in the wall that goes back the home-run in the basement one floor below. All the TV services are running on auto. I cannot explaoin why I can watch live TV but not record it. That is my question as it makes no sense to me.

I re-ran channel setup. No change.

I know I'm raising the dead here. But I just figured out the underlying cause here (it was REALLY frustrating for me).

WMC will use multiple sources for a channel. In my case, CBS is channel 19.1, (but actually broadcast on 10.1). For some random reason, WMC had tuner 0 set to tune on 10.1 and tuner 1 set to tune on 24. While I was watching 19, WMC was using tuner 0, but was trying to record on tuner 1. When I hit the record button it would throw some sort of a signal error. All I had to do was edit the source for both to point to channel 10.1. Problem solved.
