media center fan noise

i have a problem :( i have my computer connected to a tv tuner so i can watch tv on it with windows media center, but whenever i turn it on and click "live tv" to watch it, the fans on my computer suddenly get loud and really annoying. it makes like a whining type noise. its not extremely loud but enough to be pretty annoying. but when media center isnt on, it doesnt do this. can someone help? does anyone know how i can fix this? pleaseee helpp :(:(

the computer is a old dell xps 420, it has like 8 gigs of ram, a really expensive graphics card, 64 bit windows, 4 core chip??, and some other stuff.

Welcome to Seven Forums sevengurly. Did a quick google, and there are quite a few posts about noisy fans. Most seem to point to the video card fan. Some even mentioned removing and reseating the card helped. I think you need to open the case and determine which fan is making the additional noise when you start Media Center.

There are several programs that can monitor fan speeds and you can also see if they will show the additional speed. You have an nVidia GPU, so you could use any monitoring program for the most part.

Let us know what you find, where the noise is coming from, and if you can actually monitor a certain fan ramping up when you start Media Center. A Guy
