I am using WIN 7 Pro qne IE11. When I have my mail account(s) open on yahoo mail, the memory start to climb a lot. It starts out at about 300K and can go up to over 1,200,000K. I don't know yet if it is IE or IE and the mail accounts. This memory issue is rather new. Maybe a week or two.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello AS mate please follow this to start with

Nowbefore we can help we do need to know what is in your machine soplease do this System Info - See Your System Specs

oreither enter the specs of your system in your forum profile the specswill appear when we click on that little box bottom left of the postscreen it is for me the preferable option as it is easy. As you mayappreciate it is very hard when you don’t know what one is workingwith for example a diesel or petrol engine.

Additional info

At this point I am not sure if it is a WIN 7 problem, or even a Microsoft problem. When I use either IE 11 or Firefox 55.0.1 I get the same results. When I am on my yahoo email page, and only that page, the memory usage climbs quickly. When the page is entered I am using about 250,000 K. After a few minutes I am using over 1,200,000 K of memory. The memory does climb faster in Firefox than in IE, but the results are the same, degraded system performance.

Thankx

I have talked (chatted) with Yahoo mail. They passed the buck. They claim Yahoo is not causing the problem even though when I am not on the yahoo mail page the memory does not climb. I talked to Norton (my Anti virus security), they claim that Norton cannot cause the problem. Even if I am on another tab with the mail tab not shown the memory still climbs. Only when the mail tab is not requested does the memory stay in the normal range.
When the memory gets too high 3 issues occur. 1. All other active programs screens began to flash fast, 2. The task manager screen leaves a trail when moved, and 3. the following warning pops up and a second IE11 opens.

At this point I don't know where to look to solve the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes well I have to assume it must be the mail provider otherwise why the climb in memory usage now I am tempted to say that something is loading with the Yahoo stuff and I am assuming you have run some malware scans if not the I would suggest these to start with.

Well, I think I discovered the problem. After several waste of time discussions(chats)with Yahoo I did a system restore back to 7/12/17. The system was stable. I was able to run my Yahoo mail with no increasein in memory usage.

BUT, over the period from 7/12 till 7/21 Microsoft provided2 important updates :

1. Windows MaliciousSoftware Removal Tool x64 - July 2017 (KB890830)

I tried not to install these two updates. Even though I unchecked the updates, theystill installed on shutdown. Oncerebooted, the issue continued to occur.

I now have to carefully evaluate these two updates to see ifthey apply.

Hi Access,

just for my information.

That pop-up, did you actually view its details.
Assuming that it appeared, next boot, after you ran MSRT.

What might be happening is that your browsers are still trying to validate that website,
especially
if its in use
or
even on your favourites bar, (dependant on your Internet settings).

I the pop up does not appear, how do I check to see if it trying to validate that certificate?

I have not seen the pop up since I ran MSRT. But the memory continued to climb to over 1,300,000 K. At that point, I closed the program.

Which begs the question

You have a remote connection to another KNOWN Computer, i do Hope so.
Unusuall tho, certificates are issued to specific websites not to a remote computer.

Thanks for the feedback Torchwood. I read up on btrll. Fascinating and problematic. I can easily understand the certificate pop-up, but I cannot connect that to runaway memory. My friend's computer in the next room (I am wifi-ed to hers, she is wired directly into the router) does not get either btrll or the runaway memory.

Clearly Yahoo has to own up to the problem and fix that part of it. May be they are trying to dump it to Verizon who bought yahoo email.

The problem occurred because of a certificate that Norton could not verify. The problem only happened for me on my Yahoo email page. Yahoo would not confirm that is their problem. I called Norton, my anti-virus software. The verified that the popup msg was from Norton, but that Norton was performing correctly.. Since we cannot fix the certificate, we need to do the next best thing. That is to block the ad. The popup blockers built within browsers are not sufficient. So installed a free ad blocked for my browser. The ad blockers are free to download and use. This completely solved the problem. The triggering of the popup kept using more memory usage, therefore the runaway memory.

Thanks for all your help.

Yes well I must try again but later as I have gone to IE on one machine Edge on my 10 laptop and both accept Ad Blocker plus no probs so I don't think it is Kaspersky as I was beginning to think maybe it was it but no so I am just going to use IE and Edge on the machines I use the most:).
