Curious. The only way to check it now would be to turn off CleanMem and see what piles up (how the heck do I turn it off, anyway?).

Turn off cleanmem:

Right click the system tray icon and choose exit. Disable both scheduled tasks in task scheduler.

Just spotted your earlier post. Re: settings and exclude processes. No need to configure that one unless you want to specifically exclude certain system processes.

When you open task manager what's using the most memory? If it's svchost running the following services -



Then possibly your memory leak could be down to your graphics driver.

I know that the thread relates to an AMD machine and yours is Intel but it might be worth checking that your graphics driver is up to date or else if you updated recently try rolling back to the previous version.

That's just a shot in the dark.

taskhost.exe is the biggest user in NP Pool, followed by Internet Explorer. Nothing else in that column stands out.

Most of time (it jumps around a bunch), Avast and Sidebar are the top users. Nonpaged has been staying just under 300MB anf Paged is just under 1GB.

I haven't rebooted since Sunday morning (or was it Saturday afternoon?). Memory has been slowly creeping up; it's at 18% now. If the creep continues at the same rate, I would be happy. However, I'm thinking sidebar.exe may be the problem (just an unfounded hunch). I've pretty much ruled out WMC since I didn't get any increase after watching some recordings last night. for now, I'm just watching it.

I'm half tempted to go back to earliest image I have for this year (about eight weeks back) and restore it. In the future, I'm keeping the first image of each month prior to the previous eight weeks I keep now for a year.

Okay so I just found this article when researching a different problem.

Pushing the Limits of Windows: Paged and Nonpaged Pool

It's pretty technical stuff. There's a section headed Tracking Pool Leaks

I have used the utilities mentiond - Strings and SigCheck for other problems but have never used PoolMon.

If you want a look at NonPagedPool usage on my machine here's a screenshot. LMiller7 thinks your NonPagedPool is too high but I cannot tell you why that is.

Thanks, Chris! I recently got P.O.ed and went back to the earliest image I had for this year (like I said, I'm going to keep the first image of each month older than 8 weeks from now on, storage space usage be hanged), did all the bloody updates and waited to see what would happen. I still had Crystal Disk Info on the computer. Overnight, in three or four hours (much of that time, the computer was idle), my RAM went from 15% to 27%. I deleted Crystal Disk Info (portable version), rebooted and the blasted CDI was back! I looked all over to try to find any reference to it and still the stupid thing came back like a bloody virus. I finally found an entry for the misbegotten thing in the Task Manager, deleted that, and that got rid of it. That was at around three this morning. I also got rid of 8GadgetPackand installed CleanMem and set it to run every five minutes.. I'm now just keeping an eye on it. It's been steady at 13% with IE11 running (it's 12% when IE isn't running).

Right now, my Kernal Memory is running at 526 Paged and 216 Nonpaged. I'm just going to watch it for a while to see if it will stay stable (I've got other problems I'm having to deal with, such as the eejit Health Insurance Company FUBAR that is starting to become a SNAFU; I'm not far from hiring a lawyer). If it doesn't, then I'll check out the link you provided.
