Hi,

can anyone tell me how to change the menu animation in Windows 7 from slide to fade?
I did not find anything about it so I would be grateful if anybody could help me.
Thanks a lot.

There really isn't any place in the UI to adjust this in Windows 7. What you can do ensure a Fade is used is go to Control Panel --> System --> Advanced System Settings and then click on the Advanced tab and under Performance click on Settings. Ensure that the "Adjust for best appearance" radio button is selected. If not, select it. If it is already selected, move it to another selection then select it again and hit "ok". Sometimes, the slide effect is automatically activated when the computer is overworked but either logging off and on or rebooting will fix this.

Thanks for your reply.
It is a HP laptop computer which I bought a few weeks ago. It comes with a Core i3 processor and a powerful graphics adapter.
I think it must be a modification from HP that the menus are sliding and not fading.
Do you know where I can modify the settings in the registry?
I always had the fading when I installed Windows 7 for myself.

Try running the WEI (Performance Index). You can find this under Performance Information and Tools in the Control Panel and get a score. Generally, this will allow "Adjust for best appearance" to have the proper effect. As far as the registry specific setting, use the below text and put it into Notepad and then save it as a .reg file and run it; it will set it to fade. If you wish to do it manually, you can go to that specific registry key and simply put in the setting for the key.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"UserPreferencesMask"=hex:9e,3e,07,80,12,00,00,00

Let us know if this works for you or not.

Perfect, that was exactly I was looking for.
It worked very well and was easy to install.
Thanks a lot.

This is without doubt the best Windows 7 Forum.
