Hello,
Earlier today I was playing Counter Strike:Source when suddenly all my programs crashed and my PC restarts. I then got a BSOD telling me that that .sys file was the cause. After some research I have discovers that that file has down with McAfee, I do have McAfee installed so that's not a problem. However a problem is that I try to restart and go in to safe mode (networking, command prompt etc) and the BIOS screen loads up then the BSOD shows up again so I'm unable to prevent it from running. Along with the mfehidk.sys I also have the parameters (i think they are called that) 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x83C71400, 0x80399914, 0x80399610)
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x33. The last change I believe was an automatic update by Steam for Garry's Mod
Thank you for your time and I hope you can help me

OEM disc? If it is vista you cant use it to repair a win 7 OS.

If you cant boot in safe mode, and you cant boot normally you are going to need something to boot from so we can try to fix the issue.

How did you upgrade to win 7? with what serial number?

I'm not using Seven, using Vista. But the changes between the 2 OS' aren't major unlike XP to Vista. Can you still help me?

My mistake. Usually I look at the system specs but this time I didnt.

You might want to check in at our sister site (Vista Forums) where there are many who are more familiar with Vista.

Let us know if you dont get help there.

Some generic help (I only used Vista for abt a month two + years ago). You are going to need to get something to boot from.

You mentioned the OEM "recovery" disk? Have you tried booting from that?

You may want to search Google for an OEM Vista dvd download (remember 32 bit or 64) and burn it to a dvd.

Dell should have recovery options on their OEM discs you can look after and use to repair this current install.

If my memory serves me, booting from one of the Dell discs and following the "next next finish" sequence will get you a repaired OS with your data preserved, but I would browse Dell support forums to be sure of that.

I'm able to boot in the OEM Recovery Disc, obviously the first thing I pick is Repair My PC. But, there is a box that comes up with OS' installed, none appear, it asks to browse for drivers, I have no idea what to browse for. HQuest I'm going to look for that, lucky I have a laptop as well so I can burn it

Zigzag I'm thinking of just going in to Ubuntu (got a live disc) and getting important data off it (music, videos, photos, docs). Is there a way to salvage my machine in its current state? Or should I just start recovering?
