I have been having issues with my microphone for some time now, so I just didn't use it. But, I've recently started using skype as my primary long distance carrier, so a microphone is essential. I was just using the built in microphone and it worked fine. Then one day it didn't. For the last several days I've been trying to fix the microphone, and when I tried to change the built in microphone as the default I would hear an extremely high pitched loud beep and most of my processes would freeze. To stop the noise, I'd have to turn the computer off using the power button. This morning I tried this again and when I went to restart the computer it would go to a startup repair or start windows normally screen, I would choose start up repair and it would act like it was going to start up but would instead just freeze. I tried starting in Safe Mode, it would get to the drivers, then stop and restart itself going right back to this startup repair screen. I have tried to reinstall as I read on this site that that's what I should do, but it would let me get to the point I'd have to get to to actually use the CD. I don't know what to do and I am not as internet literate as I wish I were.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day.

It sounds like you have some hardware and registry corruptions. First things first. Lets make sure it's not a bug of some kind killing your sound driver. Check your system for malware, spyware and adware and then check it for virus's. Use at least 2/3 spyware checkers to be sure, not all find everything. Use malwarebytes, Cleaner and spybot s&d. They can be found at cnet.com/downloads and are free. Then run your Antivirus. Once all that is done then will clean out the registry with Ccleaner. Then check for issue. If sitll present, then will do a system restore, to a point in time before you had the issue. Then check for problem. If you still have it then a complete system reinstall is needed.

I would try these things you've suggested, but it will not get through the start up. It stops on the page where I would normally type in my password, only the password box is not there, only the background.
