microphone on Toshiba L450D Laptop not working

This mic used to work then suddenly stopped.
I can see it in hardware and sound and it is enabled
The little bar on the side which should flick green is not doing this and when i try to use it on skype no one can hear me
I also tried to record with it and it never worked
I am using windows 7
Any ideas please

No certainly not muted i have checked that 10000 times over.............

I figured as much. Just gotta start with the simple things.

Alright then... first step: I would go to Toshiba's website, and see if there are any applicable sound drivers that're newer than your installed ones. Download those, install'em, and let's see if that fixes it.

Been to Toshiba they cant even answer the question but it seems that this is a common problem with toshiba laptops. I have all the lastest drivers ............the strangest thing is that when you first go into the mic to get properties - the little green bar on the right hand side flicks like twice and then thats it..... gone...... ....... maybe it is dead lol

You know, if it's under warranty, and this is a known-difficulty, I'd see about having it in to their repair department for diagnosis...
