Microsoft confirms Windows 7 SP1 RTM, released to OEMs today

No problem here..But whats the use of having it if it is not the RTM build?

From what I understand Microsoft only denied that they had released it to manufacturers.
They did not specifically deny that this release is the RTM.

Hi, bagavan! :)

I think the leaked source is actually the RTM. You're going to get it one way or another. ;)

@nitroman84: Show off all you want. I'll just read it with a bit of appreciation and admiration. :D

That's right, like mikedl said it's coming one way or another, may as well be on your terms. ;)
@ mikedl I'll still try to keep it in moderation, besides from the looks of things to come this year I may have jumped on the SSD wagon too soon.

I can see it now, 10 or 15 years from now I'll be on here telling the newcomers how much I paid for a 128 GB SSD when you can go to Wal-Mart and but a 500 exabyte SSD for 50 bucks.

Someone's gotta do it. For now, I'll stick with software. When I can afford it, I'll rely on you for the hardware deals (and your take on the software, as well). :)

I'm getting this in the registry:

Windows7SP1-KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514

It seems "17514" is the leaked version according to Airbot's initial post in this thread.

By all accounts, this does appear to be the official RTM.

As to the "101119-1850" part, I can't find that in the registry.

Well I think I'm gonna give up and wait for it to come down the pipe on WU.
After much struggle I managed to create an ISO disk of Sp1.
I hadn't really thought much beyond that.
What I hadn't thought about is my dual boot with Linux Mint.

My post and then boot starts and at this early stage I can choose a disk boot.
Otherwise I immediately get a GRUB screen with Linux as default .
I scroll down that to Windows 7 and select and Windows bootloader appears and I choose Windows 7.
If I choose disk boot at the beginning I immediately flash to GRUB and then boot Linux.

I know I could probably disable GRUB or change the boot priority but it doesn't sound like it's worth the effort and possibility of making a complete mess.

Oh well

what's that, you have to make a boot-disc to install your version of sp1?

i agree with you, it's not worth the bother.

there's nothing particular wonderful inside sp1 anyway.

No, you do not have to make a boot disk to install SP1.

The official version comes as an EXE file that you run and install from withing Windows 7

If an unofficial version is a ISO file instead, then you could use a progam like 7-Zip to open and extract the ISO contents to your desktop and run the EXE file from within Windows 7 as well.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Possible cause for some of the SP1 install error code 0x800f0a13 prob.

If you are trying to install the leaked SP1 and are failing with an error code 0x800f0a13, I may have discovered at least one potential cause of this error.

Have you ever run Driver Sweeper to clean up problems with your ATI video card drivers? If so, V2.8 (and possibly older releases) of Driver Sweeper can delete some of the OEM ATI drivers that are part of the Win 7 install. These missing drivers can cause the SP1 install to fail with an error code 0x800f0a13.

I've started a thread on the Driver Sweeper author's site to see if he can come up with a solution.

Installed vLite? No SP1 for you! - Ars Technica OpenForum

On a totally unrelated issue, you may see high utilization on your system after the SP1 install. This is only termporary and should go away after 5-10 minutes. The cause is the mscorsvw.exe process recompiling .net assemblies in the background.

More info here (an oldie):

Paul Thurrot cast a shadow of a doubt here.

Today, however, a near-final version of the service pack leaked online for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions of the OSes, and I took the time to install the build on my main Windows 7 desktop. As I write this, I'm installing it on two laptops as well.
...
(A bit of rumor-busting. Some sites have claimed that SP1 is complete and that Microsoft will release it to its OEM--i.e. PC maker--partners as soon as tomorrow. That is not the case. SP1 is imminent, but it's not quite done as I write this. It won't be long.)
