Dear Gateway,

It seems that my battery keep loosing around ~3000mWh of its capacity everytime I fully discharge my battery. I believe that there is a defect in this battery and I would like to request warranty information.

Thank you very much.

Dear *,

Thank you for contacting Gateway. I’ll be happy to assist you with this issue.

I understand that the battery on your computer does not hold charge.

I have verified the Serial Number as * and found that the computer is in warranty and not registered.

*, you may please perform the below mentioned alternative set of instructions for recalibrating the battery performance on your computer.

(I) Note: Do not use the PC during the calibration cycle.
1. Shut down the notebook PC.
2. Connect the AC Adapter and charge the notebook PC until the battery charge light is green, indicating that the battery is completely charged.
3. Turn on the notebook PC.
4. Press F8 several times when the Acer logo appears.
5. When the Windows Advanced Boot Options menus displays, use the Up and Down arrow keys to select Safe Mode and then press Enter .
6. When the Windows Advanced Startup Menu displays, select the Startup in Safe Mode option.
7. Disconnect the AC power adapter from the notebook PC.
8. Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC shuts down.
The battery is now calibrated, and the battery level reading on the power meter should be accurate.

(II) Note: Calibrate the battery while PC is in use.
1. Connect the AC adapter and allow the battery to charge to 99% - 100% of capacity.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the notebook PC.
3. Click Start and type Power Options in the Search field and press Enter .
4. Select Create a power plan from the left sidebar.
5. Click in the Plan name field and type Calibrator . Then, press Enter .
6. Select Never for all topics in the On battery column.
7. Click Create to accept the values and force the battery to consistently discharge.
8. Allow the battery to discharge completely until the notebook PC shuts down.
NOTE: The battery power meter is now calibrated, and the battery level readings should be accurate.
9. Connect the AC adapter and restart the notebook PC.
10. After calibration, return to the Power Options dialog box (Step 3) and select your default power plan setting.

Please feel free to contact us back to check the status of the issue, after performing the instructions provided.

Makes me want to deduct a conclusion from Gateway's reply. :sarc:

Battery meters isn't calibrated still after trying 2nd suggestion. Have yet to try the first but it's time consuming. Maybe tonight.

I readed your post...Don't forget that you have 3 month warranty for the battery and suppose to annoy them with that.

When resume from a long standby mine stays at 97%/98% charged.
I do unplug and let it drain till a certain amount, then plug it again and it shows after a while 100%. This Happen only when resume from a long standby or hibernation.

My battery went from 62640mWh to 60620mWh in 15days...then nothing had happen since.
I have drain it 3 times then fully charged the first 15 days i bought the machine (AS THEY SAID "Black on White" in the Instruction Manual!!) DID they already done that?!? I'm not suppose to know it!

The battery was already 5 month old from the retailer's place (I mean brand new, but wrap in the manufacturer package) .

So mine was for 5-1/2 month old when this happened for my thoughs. I'm not complaining too much on my side as it should be 8 month old battery, including the warranty...AND if thing goes badly with it, i would not feel at shame at all bringing them back.

Hope you'll resolve quickly!:)

Thanks for that. I hope so too. I'm glad your battery is good as it is supposed to be. My battery's total disintegration is now around ~15000 mWh from the original capacity when I first used it, ~88000mWh, to the present ~73000mWh.

The strange thing is, Gateway told me to "recalibrate" which should be purely on the software side. Does Gateway acknowledge that W7 can/may be misreading battery capacities? I don't even know what I'm recalibrating exactly.
