microsoft programs not working

have recently had issues with computer, have done a clean reinstall of windows 7, am now getting these random messages and constant reminders to update windows. when i do the updates and restart it restores back to previous point and then proceeds to do the same things again. While i am using the computer it work fine on the whole, but i lose anything i have done, documents, game saves etc, when the computer restarts

I think I would start with opening a command prompt with admin privileges and running the command SFC /scannow

You may have a dodgy HDD.

When I was trying out the W7 betas I used an old 40 GB HDD that I had lying around.
I could install W7 and use it with no problems.
Rebooting the PC didn't cause any problems.
The weird thing was that if I turned the PC off, the next time I tried to run it, the OS couldn't be located.

I could reinstall the OS and use it, as long as I didn't turn it off.
I've got no idea how that could possibly happen.

Anyway the upshot is the HDD was kaput.

One god way to check your hard drive is Seagate Tools. Download from here:
SeaTools | Seagate
It's easy to use but there is a tutorial on the website if you need it.

hi all, thanks for looking at it. had vaguely come to the conclusion that there was an issue with my boot drive so I have removed it and installed windows onto my data drive for now. will see how it goes. touch wood seems okay at the moment, but not ideal as not on ssd anymore.

But have you done any checks on your SSD? There is a Kingston SSD Toolbox here:
Download SH100S3Toolboxv1, for sh100s3 | Kingston Technology
but i don't know if you can check your drive withit. The link to Seagate I gave you will certainly check the drive for you! Surely it's worth trying!
