Unless they blackmail you with it. What worries me more are the governments and corporations that collect my data (aka spy on me) not being secure enough to keep that data out of the hands of malicious hackers.

Security costs money, so it's the first thing that is dropped during the development of systems.

Also, politicians are very interested in finding out who voted for them and punishing those who didn't (e.g. the Fort Lee lane closure scandal or the IRS targeting controversy).

Tried 10, wasn't thrilled, and reinstalled 7 on 11/26. I hid the 4 known "telemetry" updates and set the DisableOSUpgrade value in the registry. WU is on and set to notify.

So far no sign of sketchy updates, GWX, or the install bits being silently downloaded.

I tried 10, but I'm back on 7 now. I have a six year old Intel motherboard and Intel's not supporting 10 on old boards. It was too much of a hassle trying to find suitable Intel drivers and I'm not sure that the MS supplied drivers are offering full functionality. My 10 upgrade install was buggy. My 10 clean install became toast when I installed the wrong version Intel RST driver. Hence, back to reliable 7 which is their pinnacle of design IMO. If you have an old motherboard, you're better off with 7. Also, 10 is not as good as 7 for performing all the usual PC maintenance tasks IMO.

Yep I personally did not like all of the third partyware it takes to make 10 bearable not to mention 10 pro was mandatory to do the rest = group policy to kill cortana......

Too much setup time to mess with for directx12

Personally I would do the above and buy another hdd or ssd to load win-10 on

I hate Cortana myself but there are just way too many things built in to it that i have zero interest in. I hate the whole metro look as well .

Even funnier is IE11's spell checker is flagging Cortana as being misspelled.

Not that it's a bad idea & I know some people that make a system image before any update from MS (me included), but it seems like an even more important thing to do now considering you might let one innocuous thing slip through & next thing you know: "Surprise, you've got 10!."

I'm one of those who make an image before updating MSpy updates (or anything else, for that matter). I also wait until Saturday before downloading and installing the updates so there is time for reports of problems to surface. Often, when MSpy comes out a borked update, it gets pulled, fixed, and replaced by Saturday.

Spell checking for most any application is in your system dictionary. Cortana isn't in mine and FF will flag it as misspelled too.

Yep high alert on all windows updates listed as Important or not
I rarely bother with anything but Important updates anyway but if any refer to 10 at all skip.

Possibly one will finally say Prevent remote code execution from M$ and win-10

Microsoft will do anything, and I mean anything to get users off of Windows 7.
Cheat, misinformation, scare tactics, backdoor drop ins using Updates or what ever they can think of.

Microsoft wants W-10 app store big time.
Microsoft wants W-10 on their own hardware.
One would wonder why when they already have 90% of computer market.
Simple. They want to go the Apple way.

If Apple can make the kind of money they do by controlling everything and they only have about 6% of the market, just think how much money Microsoft could make doing it the Apple way when they have 90% of the market.
Once Microsoft locks users into W-10, their app store and hardware they will become a huge Apple like the world has never seen.

Some will say if Microsoft is successful doing it the Apple way they will just use another operating system. Okay, what.
Realistically at the present time their is Apple or Microsoft operating system for the mass market. Sure some techie people will find something else to use but the masses (billions of users) will not do such a thing.
Unless a company or person with very deep pockets creates a new operating system their isn't really much of a selection.
Right now we have Apple and Microsoft telling the mass market, do it my way or else.

I disagree on the hardware, I don't see that happening. Oems for one. I know the U.S. government would most likely not approve a merger with computer companies. Comcast didn't get approved, so I can not see Microsoft getting approved either.

I don't believe that Microsoft needs approval to have it's own hardware.
It would be like GM needing approval to have it's own engines.

But we have seen governments that will take Microsoft to court for just about anything.
All Microsoft would have to do is throw Apple in the picture. What's up judge Apple has been doing it for years.

I try to look at two things when buying something. Price and Value.
W-10 is free but I see no value.
It would suck up one of my valuable Windows 7 COA keys ($140.00) and give me no value.
On top of that I would have to buy programs to stop things like keylogging ect.

Group policy does have a boat load of entries for just about everything in 10 :/
I hear ya LBB if I didn't want 7 Pro I probably wouldn't of upgraded my original 7 home premium on my new build and then bought an upgrade to 10 pro :/

But it is what it is just means all other 7 installs are off limits to 10 is all
Really liking Macrium everything is now verifying the last one now after installing my games

Win 10 is NOT a turd. A turd can be processed and used for fertilizer. Win 10 isn't even good for that.
