Microsoft silently preparing your PC for Win 10

I'm using WiFi on my Windows 7 Laptops and Ethernet on my Windows 8.1 Desktop.

Is that something to do with the update?

Are you guys/gals using WiFi or Ethernet to download the iso? It is surprising to see a 20 mpbs speed take longer or the same amout of time it takes a 3 mpbs speed to download a 3.92 gb file.

Well I tried downloading a game on steam that 6GB in size and took me 2:30:00 hours - 3 hours. I'm still not gonna switch to 10 with download.

So, which are the ones I should hide? There are supposedly 3 of these sneaky updates. I've hidden KB3035583 ("recommended"), which is the "main" one, and then I've hidden "KB2990214" which is optional. What about "KB2952664" (also optional)? Is it related to one of these sneaky updates?

It would seem to be a 'kissing cousin', this is from an April 2014 article:

KB 2952664 for Windows 7, originally released Oct 14, 2014, and now re-released for at least the eighth time, is billed as a "Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7." Microsoft's minimalist KB article is now up to version 7. As I mentioned on Oct 15, 2014, the patch had been released at least seven times at that point, on April 16, April 22, May 13, June 10, July 8, Aug. 12, and Oct. 14, 2014. This makes number eight (I think). Last October, here's what I said:

Back in April, I speculated that KB 2952664 was a patch for Win7 to make it easier to perform in-place upgrades to Windows 8.1. Now it's starting to look like the patch may also ease the transition to Windows 10. Heaven only knows, your speculation is as good as mine.

I believe Anak is on the right track it's a morph from win-8's update which probably made it through :/

This one is perplexing though seeing that it would make ready a 10tp version

Can you guys tell me why you are exactly hiding it? I don't really get why you would hide it but everyone has their opinion. IMHO, I don't really care about uninstalling and hiding it YET since it isn't confirmed what exactly these will lead too.

We're hiding the updates obviously because we're not interested in win-10 in tp state

It's just a matter of changing your update settings and review them before downloading and installing them.

I haven't hid any of the updates that Microsoft has sent out to prepare the PC's for Windows 10, because when it comes out I will install it. But, I probably will not install the Windows 10 TP because there is too many bugs that haven't been worked out yet.

Lord I hope so :shock:

I don't see any hurry to do anything but reject these updates for preparation to update 7 because it will never see 10 on any of my 7 machines,

Win-8 is up for it but still about a year early to even do that
Besides I don't even have my win-8 installed I'll wait to get a iso to clean install or at the very least wait for the actual options for a clean install are from win-8.1.
