Yeah, it does not exist in Win7. I use Rocket Dock instead - it's similar.

Thats one thing Ive missed since Vista was released, I used to drag the QuickLaunch toolbar out from the Taskbar and place it at the top of the screen but it cant be done now without 3rd party software these days

Now I just use the AppLauncher gadget (Winkey + G will bring gadgets to the foreground) : Windows Live Gallery

When I first booted the computer up when I got it from dell, it was on there. I think you might not understand what im talking about.... Straight from the factory there was a bar, and it had the recycle bin, and a few other things on the top of the screen.........

YES! :D It's gone! After having the computer for a day and installing programs, and rebooting multiple times, that bar is gone, where I was just getting comfortable with it, with all my icons! Hokus Pokus and it was gone...

Unfortunately AppLauncher works only in Win7 32bit - not in 64bit. At least that's what I had experienced.
Do you use it in a tweaked sidebar Vista style or as a free floating gadget Win7 style?.

Have a look in the program files whether there is some kind of dock - e.g. Rocket dock.

AFAIK Dell does ship a customised version of Startdock's Object dock with some of it's models - It would appear that this is what we are dealing with here ;).

All I can suggest to the OP is to check out dell's website for their particular model and check if this is available for download - Dell are normally pretty good in this respect so I would expect it to be available.

The other thing to try is to check for a dell applications disk with the system or even a folder on the C: system drive

@dmex, since it works for you on 64bit, I will try the version you linked which is 3.3.4.6 - I was using 3.3.1.4. Thanks for the info.
PS: I'll have to try that tomorrow since I am on my 32bit Win7 right now.

Go to the .exe in Program files (or All Programs) and send a shortcut to the desktop. Then open the startup shell folder (type shell:startup into Start/search and hit Enter). Then drag the shortcut into that folder, close the folder. From now on it will get started when you boot.
PS: these docks can be customized. Right click on it and you will see. Autohide is a nice option.

If looking for the existing files is fruitless, the previous link I provided actually contains a download link. downloading and re-installing will of course possibly re-set everything to default but this may be needed to correct whichever issue made the DellDock disappear in the first place.

Edit

I would also like to add that I used to use Rocketdock prior to win7 but have found that the new win7 task-bar makes this unnecessary for the way I work. I would also advise the original poster to spend a little time learning the built in option, as it is probable that if they work on anyone else's system the dock will not be present.

That may work if you have a few shortcuts. But if you have many (like I have about 70), the taskbar is overwhelmed. And i like to distribute them by "theme" - some to the taskbar, some to the rocket dock and to the AppLauncher in the sidebar plus 4 toolbars in the taskbar.

Sorry I forgot the YMMV ;) - the great thing about windows is that it is customisable to the way that you work :D

Well, I'll throw my hat in as well with an alternative. I was also extremely unhappy to find out that Microsoft removed this functionality. It's really a show stopper for me, but I have to use Win7 at work now, so I went ahead and wrote my own docking toolbar. It's a left-side, auto-hiding docked toolbar. It allows you to drag and drop files and shortcuts on the toolbar, very similar to the old toolbars. I tried to keep the look and feel as close as I could get it to the original.

It's not customizable very much (because I just wrote it for what I need), but anyone is free to use it if they happen to also prefer a left-side, auto-hiding, single column width docked toolbar. Maybe if I get a lot of interest I'll add features (like choosing where it can dock and resizing it and what not).

It's called the SIMS Toolbar, which either refers to the fact that it "SIMulateS" the old XP toolbar, or it stands for "Suck It, MicroSoft!".... You decide. :^D
