Mistakenly set "Contacts" folder as Documents folder for all files

I set this Windows 7 computer up wrong more than a year ago and have just lived with it, but I am wanting to use an online backup service, and want my files to be in a standard place just in case.

When I moved my files from my previous computer, the first thing I did was create a separate partition on my new computer, drive "R." I meant to then put everything in the "Documents" folder and locate it on the "R" partition (I had it set up this way on the previous computer, using Vista).

Somehow I got befuddled and they all went in the "Contacts" folder (correctly located on "R" but incorrectly identified). I think when I moved them from the default location on the "C" drive to the new partition on "R," I must have gotten trigger happy and hit the wrong folder button or something, I don't quite remember.

Fixing it is not as simple as using the "Location" tab in the "Properties" dialog for "Contacts." I want to leave all my folders on the "R" drive, I just want them to be in "Documents" not "Contacts."

I'm afraid if I simply rename "Contacts" to "Documents" or move them manually that will break all links to programs (big and small, such as Word, Dropbox, iTunes, etc.)

Screen shots below.

(And yes, the "Contacts" folder inside my "Contacts" directory does contain MS Exchange contact files.)

If someone can help me tidy up this mess I would REALLY appreciate it. (Unless you think I should just continue to live with it and save myself hours of frustration.)

Thanks

Shawn,

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at those instructions after visiting previous threads. They look involved, but I trust your judgment.

You are a god. You helped me out with many, many Vista issues (I eventually sold that machine and Windows 7 has been mostly trouble-free: easy to use as a Mac!).

I will give Option 2 a try during my vacation coming up in February and post the results.
