Hi Paul,

You could stick with that if you wanted, but I would suggest using HDMI if your GPU supports it. :)

Just set up the monitor.

The speakers in the monitor are better than the ones I had - and I thought those were fine.

There are so many settings and adjustments, that you need a Masters in Monitors, but I guess it will get easier with time.

When I first turned it on, it said - "no signal but HDMI is connected - press OK to switch to HDMI.

There's no way that I could see to do that, but I finally turned the button on monitor off and on.

That fixed it and I was finally able to get the screen to show Desktop.

Other than the initial hiccups, this monitor is great and I thank both of you again.;)

Thanks Chuck,

One thing I found I had to do was change the resolution to1920 X 1080.

Seems to be easier on the eyes.

You're welcome, that is a nice monitor...enjoy it!

It really deserves a dedicated graphics card ;)

Hi Dude,

Quick question : I was on the Amazon review site and a reviewer said it is impossible to get 2560 X 1080 with HDMI ( which I use and my comp reports that I'm getting).

He says you must use Display Port - which I don't have - guess I would need a dedicated graphics card, but I'm not a gamer and can't justify the expense.

The resolution on the monitor is crystal clear, but the reviewer says it is really 1980 X 1060 being stretched.

I spoke to LG and they say he is wrong.

What's your opinion?

Thanks,

Paul

The page for the LG 29UM65 says it is 2560-1080. The OP's mobo specs says Asus P8Z77. The Asus page for that board -

Integrated Graphics Processor
Multi-VGA output support : HDMI/DVI/RGB/DisplayPort ports
- Supports HDMI with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
- Supports DVI with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
- Supports RGB with max. resolution 2048 x 1536 @ 75 Hz
- Supports DisplayPort with max. resolution 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz

so IMHO, the OP needs a separate gfx card to get the native monitor resolution on HDMI. Display Port looks OK.

The specs that have been posted show that your monitor and your motherboard both have Display Port which have higher bandwidth then HDMI to support those higher resolutions. A few bucks for a Display Port cable would be worth a try. Check the ports to see what they are (Standard or Mini) I use this site for my cables but they are available everywhere.

What's the purpose of getting a display port cable if I don't have a dedicated graphics card?

According to previous posts, that's what I would need, right?
