Monitor Resolution ?

Hello,

Just got a new 22" Monitor.
Apparently it is capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution.

If I select that resolution in the Control panel, all the Folder icons and everything else becomes quite small.

If I go down to 1600 x 900, everything looks just fine.

Any way of using the higher resolution, and not have everything look so small ?

Bob, right click any where on a blank area of the desktop, hover the mouse on VIEW and change the setting for what size you want the icons to be.

Another way to adjust the icon size is to left click and release on a blank spot on the screen, then press and hold the CTRL key while rolling the scroll wheel on the mouse. I personally like my icons as small as possible but you can pretty much make any size you want.

Followup Question: If I change the icon size, as suggested, is this also, simultaneously, changing
the screen resolution setting I have set in the control panel?

e.g., if I have the highest resolution selected that my new monitor supports, and I go then to make the icons larger, will this (also) change the high resolution setting I previously selected ?

Bob, changing the size of the icons is not affecting you screen resolution.

For best display quality it is best to use the native resolution of your monitor, which in this case is likely going to be 1920 x 1080. With high resolution monitors this may make things too small. Following the instructions above will change the size of icons and text on the desktop but will do nothing for applications. To do this you would go into Control Panel - Display. You can select the options of "Smaller", "Medium", or "Larger" or choose a custom size. This will change the size of text and adjust the size of containing windows, buttons, etc, so everything fits. This is often necessary with high resolution monitors.
