Hello!

I have a new Dell Latitude E5540 with Intel HD graphics card and an Nvidia Geforce GT 720M graphics card. The Intel card seems to be handling the main graphics with the nvidia card looking after the physics.

I need to connect to a Dell 2007FP monitor to the laptop but it seems I have set an incorrect resolution in the Intel HD grtaphics card settings for this monitor.

It only allows me to change the settings for the monitor when it is pluigged in, but when it is plugged in it just flickers on and off so I cant get to the settings!!

Are the settings stored in the background somewhere where I could change them?

You help is very much appreciated.

The Intel GPU will run under normal circumstances (everyday use such as browsing, Word/Excel files etc, watching videos) whereas the nVidia GPU will kick in and take over when needed, for example when gaming.

Hi there
Monitor is connected via VGA.
The native res of the monitor is 1600x1200 60hz which I know works as we have another pc that will run it at this. When originally trying to set it up the laptop wouldnt run it at 1600x1200 so I lowered the res, but in doing so accidentally set it too high and now I cant get out of the loop.

Infuriating!

When you plug in the second monitor you should be able to modify the resolution for both screens independently (if they're not duplicated). You may need to switch the Function Display feature (Fn) to use both screens for this to work.

As bulletng mentioned, try the Fn key combo, for Dell, it should be Fn + F8.

But I wonder if tapping Fn + F8 will cause the display to cycle thru these states...
display on laptop
display on laptop + monitor
display on monitor
...when dual video sources (Intel and Nvidia) are involved. It should. Let's hope :-)

yes it "should" allow me to change the settings as per your image, but they are greyed out.
I went through this with Dell tech support yesterday but they were unable to help me.
I plugged another monitor in this morning that can handle the full res natively so I think I'm going to quit it and use this one instead. I can use the Dell 2007FP on the other machine.
Cop out :-(
