Mouse and or keyboard randomly stop working

Hello everyone I have been having a rather annoying issue for a while now. This mostly happens on start up and once desktop loads up either my USB mouse freezes or my keyboard doesn't work or sometimes BOTH. My keyboard is a PS/2 Keyboard. It seems the only solution when both freeze at the same time is to either restart the computer or unplug them and plug them back in. This morning when I booted it up my mouse immediately was frozen and I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it is working. This error is very random and sometimes doesn't happen immediately on start up but while browsing the Internet a decent amount of time after start up. Another important thing I forgot to mention is I get NO blue screen or no error message it just stops working. I have no idea as to what could be causing this problem so if anyone could please assist me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Okay a quick look over that shows a system service is being unexpectedly halted.
It's hard to find a exact reason for the fault based on just the perfmon but you have not had any bluescreens to create a minidump for me to debug.

The first thing I am noticing is the AVG system event id manager is doing something strange on your system.
I wouldn't think this likely to cause the behavior you are experiencing but removing avg and replacing it with mse could easily rule it out as the item blocking the system service.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security_essentials/default.aspx
MSE isn't perfect either but it has a lot fewer known issues.

If you could hit the winkey + r
and type
eventvwr.msc
and hit enter a window will open

Expand the windows logs click system, and look for red ! marks
I'm curious as to the source of those.
If this step doesn't illuminate anything more direct for me.
The only other route I can think of is to intentionally cause a crash but I would rather avoid that.
First let's see if removing AVG helps.

How far back should I check the ! red marks?
I see the following:
1. A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Roxio Hard Drive Watcher 12 service to connect.
2. Performance power management features on processor 3 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
3. Performance power management features on processor 2 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

That's a decent amount to start, a lot of them are repeating themselves. I don't know if this helps at all?

It looks like the computer is telling you to check for a possible bios update for your system.
Such an update would be found either on the manufacturers website ie. dell, hp, packard bell, alienware
Or on the motherboard manufacturers website i.e. ASUS, Gigabyte, Intel.

I recently have updated the BIOS, this is a relatively new motherboard and I am pretty sure it is the most up to date version. I'll go look into it some more

Bumping this thread as I am still having problems. Ran memtest no errors were found. Whenever my computer randomly crashes no error message or blue screen comes up the computer just locks up and I have to force shut it down. Scanned for viruses and did everything, have the most updated BIOS as well and I even reformatted and nothing has helped. Nothing really sparks the crash as it is completely spontaneous. Today it crashed when I opened up a youtube video, I heard the audio get distorted and then I couldn't do anything at all and it locked up. However, as mentioned above it happens when not playing any video as well.

Thanks a lot

Well there is something I came up with that might help you here.

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

If you are having a power management problem with the keyboard and mouse this should help solve it.

Forgive me for butting in...

But I'm having exactly the same problem, down to the distorted sound and everything. I've just changed my power setting for my USB keyboard and mouse, so we'll see what happens.

A premature thank you.
