Dear and omnipotent folks,

Since I have a problem with my pc being too full with stuff I recently purchased an external Hard Drive (Iomega hdd 1 thera byte), and wanted to move some things from my computer to that hard drive!

But I sincerely don't know what to move or how!

Which folders are important and can't be moved? Which ones can I just put on the HDD?

And also is there a good program that can do all this moving fancy shmancy or do I have to copy and paste?

Thank you very much folks!

You certainly don't need to use a special program to do it. Cutting and pasting will work fine, but you are the only one who can really answer your own questions. What is filling up your drive? If it is user data, then create folders on your external for Photos, Music, etc and then copy those files to those folders. You didn't really give us enough to go on, or to even give much of an answer. You can't just cut and paste random folders, as some that are related to Windows and applications won't function once they are moved.

Find out what is filling up your space, and go from there. I'd start with moving my user created data.

All the folders for Windows and all programs or applications that are installed on your computer must/should stay on the PC's hard drive.
Folders named ATI, Intel, nVIDIA, Perflogs, Program Files, Program Data, Temp, and Users should stay.

Any folders and files that you created can be moved to the external.

If in doubt, leave it.

Both really straight to the point and precise answers, and I thank you for that!

One thing I was curious about DeaconFrost's solution is: do you know a way to see which user created folders occupy the most space? I remember seeing a pie chart with filled-to-free space on the bottom left of a window in the past operative systems! Is there something similar for other folders? Anyways I will clear some space and start transferring the Videos-Music-Pictures folders, those are the ones I made:D

WinDirStat is a free program that will show you a visual graph along with details on how much space is being used, and by what. However, you will still need to know what folders you can leave or not.
