Moving SyncToy pairs from XP to Win7

I was using an XP laptop to manage two external hard drives (a 500GB primary backup and a 1TB secondary backup) using SyncToy (action: Echo).

I have now got a new laptop running Win7 64-bit and will be giving away the old one soon. How do I manage these drives on my new laptop?

Posted this query on Microsoft's official SyncToy forum a while ago but received no answers. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Seven Forums TomStrong. Is the program no longer working for you?

Per the Announcement section at the top of the SyncToy forum:

We have just completed a test pass on SyncToy 2.0 running on Windows 7 and am happy to announce that we have not found any issues. Ultimately, SyncToy is provided “as is,” and Microsoft does not actually provide official support services for it. However, for those of you that have started to use Windows 7, you should expect to have a similar experience to that of other platforms such as Windows XP and Vista and if issues arise please let us know on this forum.

SyncToy creates one hidden file each in the left folder and and the right folder, SyncToy_*.dat.

Simply delete those hidden files and then create the same folder pairs on your new machine. ( I haven't tried . So as a matter of abundant caution, just create a trial folder pair filled with some junk files , try it and check before you apply the solution to the actual pairs. Good luck.)

Thanks for your replies. A Guy, the program installed fine but of course I haven't actually tried the actual syncing. Ponmayilal, that could be the solution but as you say it is untested. I will try testing with some junk files as you suggest. But I was hoping someone had actually tried this out and would be able to share their experience.
