Multiple Questions (Involves Customization of Windows 7)

Alright. Done with the clean re-install! Woohoo! I think all my drivers have been updated/restored ^.^

Some questions that you might be able to help me with though. I thought I fixed them but I guess not.

1. When I use the volume/brightness quick buttons on my keyboard there is no display showing the current level. (same when turning beats audio on and off). NOTE: The buttons DO work though.
2. The touchpad stays on all the time and has the orange light instead of shifting between the white and the orange.
3. Beats audio control panel won't open.

So far that's all I'm trying to figure out.

After that I will work on getting my programs back ^.^

Yeah that drive isn't compatible with my hardware so I downloaded the one for my model on hp.com. I then did the quick launch buttons but there is still no change. The buttons work, but they show no feedback on the screen. The touchpad still glows orange the whole time and wont turn off.

That's why I specified you'd need the driver from your own model's Support Downloads webpage.

Look through all of the software posted there to find one which might provide the feature. Then look through the Hotfixes and Patches which sometimes also resolve such issues.

I would not add any of the software that doesn't relate to the issue, however, or it will begin to defeat the purpose of a Clean Reinstall. You can try software that seems related and if not Uninstall it in Control Panel>Programs and Features.

I have seen users have to give up the on-screen feedback after a Clean Reinstall, and of course using a notebook mouse is always preferable. But import the latest touchpad driver to be sure, and look for corresponding software.

Mhm. Just going to reinstall the driver and see if it works real quick.

Edit: feel like a total genius - saw the driver hiding among useless add-ons >.<

If you provide the DV7 model extension I'll help you look.

Its LM726AV. I believe I found it, the touchpad can now turn off and the notifications appear on screen. It's with useless HP additions...seems like something more important than those...Thanks though ^.^ I will leave that model number here just in case I mess something up

Blazer can you specify the exact name of the HP software which solved the touchpad and FN key display problem so I can add them to the tutorial, along with any other tips about getting these to work? Thanks.

Sure.

For the notification display there is HP On-Screen Display Utility that is under the Utilities tab. This is an older version, the one right after it has a broken link on the HP page and other sources provided the link I attached here.

For quick buttons there is HP Quick Launch Software found in the Solutions tab.

For the touchpad make sure to download the Synaptic TouchPad Driver and make sure to overwrite the files when prompted. This is in the Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices tab. There is also a Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver here.

Lastly, If you have a fingerprint reader make sure to download the HP SimplePass Identity Protection 2011 Software in the Software - Security tab. Please Note: There is a 2012 version out, but you will have to look elsewhere. You can find it at software.informer or at one of the HP support threads.

I know you didn't ask for the fingerprint reader, but I figured it would be helpful to post ^.^

Very helpful. Thanks. Your post is now part of the tutorial and will help many others. :geek:
● Problems with volume control lighting and HP Quick Launch buttons have been dealt with here and here.
Providing the link provides context which helps even more.

Now let us know how performance pans out. If you can't avoid a 3rd party theme, we have a forum here to help you sort that best.

Some of the HP software will need to startup with PC but not all, so test that.

No problem. Glad I could help ^.^

So far so good. The only thing that I can't tell if it's normal or not is the screen flashing black after logging in. Not the fade through black but a sudden flash. Not really a big deal though. I'm just a perfectionist...and possibly OCD...I am going to browse the msconfig right now to see what is booting up. I just finished installing the programs I frequently use (more bloatware ;D).

As for 3rd party themes, I did see some stuff posted on here and went with a theme a user was using at that time. I'm not really sure though. I tend to like dark backgrounds with light words (opposite of what windows provides) and some of the custom icons people use are cool. Did you customize the look of your PCs? If so, with what/how?

I wrote in Post 20 how I customize all of my installs using the Win7 Aero theme and slideshow of the most spectacular pictures ever taken, the combined backgrounds of all Win7 National Editions. I suggest you try that to see if it's satisfactory because everyone has raved about it so far.

A black screen flash at the Welcome screen is normal. It might be remedied some by paring Startups to the bone which is best for performance anyway.

Ah ok. I meant if you customized your "skins" or something. I might tinker with the aero skin and see if I can get what I'm looking for. (Also with windows colors) I'm not generally one who uses scenery and such as desktop backgrounds :) thanks though!

I tried to do a little with custom themes, but some of the themes wouldn't completely change the desktop so I'm not sure where I will end up this time. Might create a restore point and try dark mango again xD

Yes sir. I've browsed it a bit before. I think I'll go into more detail this time and possibly ask questions since i have an account now.

I will leave this open just in case my computer explodes ^.^

So far so good, thanks for the tip with the clean reinstall greg.
