music player glitches bad when on internet

Hello all. When playing music on itunes or other music players, I get a bad glitch when online at the same time. Music plays just fine when that's the only thing open, but if surfing the web or looking thru facebook, it glitches terrible. I have tried a handful of things and can't get it to work. It was fine with XP, but 7 is making it aweful. I am sure it is somthing stupid I can change, but I don't have any idea where to look. My other computer is very similar and it works just fine with itunes and 7. So, here I am, asking the experts. Please help.

Hello. Browser- windows internet explorer. Nothing special really, just a plain old normal facebook page and itunes... nothing else and it is all screwed up.

You could give "chkdsk /r" a shot by running it in a command prompt.

Does it stutter when you do non-internet related tasks? [like play a game or edit a photo for example]

Either a hardware conflict or a software conflict. :shock:

Does it do it immediatedly after a reboot, or is it something that happens after the computer has come out of sleep/hibernation.

When it is glitching open up task manager and see wgich process(es) is using the most CPU resources.

If the audio is on a shared IRQ with another device (on many systems) the other device is the higher priority and that can "interrupt" the audio. Uninstalling the sound in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the device and sometimes it will put it on a different shared IRQ and help interrupt caused problems.

To answer the questions: first, no, it only does it on the internet. All other programs work without disturbing the sound. 2nd, yes it does right anytime, right after reboot makes no difference. And yes, I have opened task manager and the only thing ahead of it is the internet explorer. I tried changing the priority from normal to realtime and it would only accept a change to high. So, I did that. I really didn't want to turn the ie down as it is also a much used program. I compared it to my other PC and all the settings appear the same and work fine. Go figure.
Now, forgive me, but the last response about the IRQ sounds like a good idea, but I have no idea what to do with that. Rookie here guys. What and how?

To uninstall in the Device Manager, hold the Windows key down and press the pause/break key. When the panel comes up, Device Manager can be accessed from the task list in the upper left of the panel. In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound module and then LEFT click on "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to delete the drivers - you just want to uninstall the device. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

I hate "virtual" IRQs!

The reinstall may indeed help as it sounds like your internet adapter (wired or wireless?) is in conflict with your audio card. Either that or the realtime functions of your virus checker are working overtime and causing the problem.

This may be a case where older Vista drivers work better.

Hmmmm looking at "System Information" Hardware Resources/IRQs ... I see I have 190 IRQs listed, looks like the graphics card resides on 191.

191 IRQs and only 15 of them work! hehehe...

well, I tried that. It removed and reinstalled just like you said, but did not fix the problem at all. I did change the compatibility to windows XP somewhere the other day and that didn't help either. Can't remember where I did that at... I'd like to change it back since it didn't fix it. Any other suggestions? This is terrible.

Three main things going on when browsing, in no uncertain order.

Graphics loading/unloading including flash video ads....etc.
Network adapter or wireless downloading data.
Real-time virus malware checking.

Try this... go online and download a decent sized file, like drivers for your graphics card... something at least 20MB. Does the music glitch while downloading?


Also, try this...
Can you disable/quit your virus checker, go to a few web sites you know are good (to be safe) and see how the music plays.

Several have fixed a similar problem by stopping Windows Security Essentials.

tell me more about run "chkdsk /r" in a command prompt . You're right, I missed that one. What is it, what does that do? I don't want to do anything that I don't know how to change back if it fails.

I tried to disable the virus, no change.
As far as while downloading, well, hard to answer that. I picked Adobe as it wasn't already on there. The install had a running add on the top. Seemed to me that the music worsened when the add rotated and didn't do that bad during the actual download. Darn thing just acts like it doesn't want to do 2 things at once. The old POS I had with XP was fine. I don't get it. I know it's capable.

I have a solution now!

You have to forget the integrated network adapter!

I've tried out something a few minutes ago. In our case the problem is caused by the network adapter. Maybe there is something wrong with the IRQ assigments. I tried setting the IRQ priority higher for the soundcard but no results.
I have an integrated nForce networking adapter. I have an IntelPRO/100+ PCI adapter too from my old PIII. And here is what im done. I put the Intel PCI card into a PCI slot after my soundcard - using this for network. Everything is working fine now! No glitches!
