Windows 7 Home 64bit is my OS.
The computer components are:
- Asus Z87 Motherboard
- Intel 4670k not overclocked
- 2 x 8GB Kingston Blu DDR3 240 pin RAM
- in 4 hours after re-setting time the time keeping shows a loss of 2 and 1/2 hours
It has been happening in the last week or so.
What could be happening?

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
It had briefly crossed my mind too. But a motherboard bought in mid 2013 seemed too young to fail. Is your image the precise model that I need to buy? or is it a generic image of a coin battery?
Who sells these things? Home-Depot has a variety of coin batteries. Other than them, I have no idea.

The CR2032 Battery has been used on Desktop Motherboards for many years.
It can usually be found at major chain pharmacies for $3 or less.
It is used in Blood Glucose meters for diabetics, also.

So is it a matter of just replacing the new for the old depleted within a few minutes. Do I have to take any precautions not to lose data or something worse?
Or is it just the simple swap with no other ulterior consequence?. Any issues with the CMOS?. No need to flash it right?

No one knows how long a battery will last. I keep a couple three around all the time.
I have seen brand new ones that were no good.
When you replace the battery your bios will go to default. Unless you are over clocking your bios are at default already.
You will have to set your time and date in the bios and in Windows 7.
