Solved Need Advanced sharing options advice while traveling.

Hi everyone.

Forgive me in advance for my ignorance but I don't get out much. My laptop is an HP Pavilion g6. I use Microsoft Security Essentials & Malwarebyte's; Windows firewall is activated.

I'm about to leave on a long vacation in a few days & want my new laptop be secure as possible as I'll be tapping into WIFI in many different places. All I want to do is use the internet on occasion. I'm not sure what the most secure options are.

Under Windows Advanced sharing options,

Home or Work

1. Network discovery is ON
2. File & printer sharing is ON
3. Public folder sharing in ON
4. Media streaming is ON
5. File sharing connections 128-bit
6. Password protected sharing ON
7. Home group connections Allow Windows to manage home group

Public

1. Network discovery is OFF
2. File & printer sharing is OFF
3. Public folder sharing in ON
4. Media streaming is ON
5. File sharing connections 128-bit
6. Password protected sharing ON

Under Public I believe Public folder sharing & Media streaming should be changed to OFF.


Any suggestions?

Thats correct - turn OFF Public folder sharing and Media streaming.
