Need CMOS battery w/leads

I've got an old ACER Aspire R1600. It's a small form factor bookshelf type PC. I've been looking all over trying to find a replacment CMOS battery for it. The original was a "NEWSUN CR2032-3 Note this is not a plug in battery that normally clips into a plastic holder. It is a battery that is wrapped and sealed and has three (3) leads on it terminated in a three wire micro molex plug. Wires are Red, Black and White.

I believe this setup is a three wire setup to accomodate a rechargable battery. I have not cut open the thing to examine it yet. Problem is that I can not find a supplier in the US for "any" type of CR-2032 type battery with a 3 wire plug attached as shown.

Also it looks and feels like the thing is somehow glued in place. I don't see any way to remove it and it's pretty firmly stuck there.


Anybody have any info on where I can find a source for that battery? Thanks Rich

Have seen many of CMOS battery w/ leads. The new is that it has 3 wires and not 2.
Does it has one or two batteries?

What I did to replace the battery was to cut the plastic and use a soldering iron do release the cables from the old battery and attach to the new CR2032 battery. Then use a piece of thermal plastic to shield the battery.
Is the battery glued on top of the card reader? If yes, use the soldering iron to heat a little the aluminum to softener the glue.

That looks like an ordinary laptop-style CMOS battery, particularly common on IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad laptops. With the small form factor of the Aspire R1600, I wouldn't be surprised if it used a lot of laptop-style parts, such as battery and maybe even memory SODIMMs instead of DIMMs. So look for laptop battery replacements, such as these from Amazon.

I think if you look inside the yellow covering you'll find an ordinary CR2032 Lithium 3V battery with the black and white wires soldered or spot welded together on one side of the CR2032, and the red wire on the other.

Watch out for the connector pinout, however -- as discussed here. Make sure the wiring of your replacement matches your old battery.

I doubt the battery is glued down. I think it's more likely the yellow heat shrink insulation has slightly melted from heat inside the case and stuck itself to the metal cover below it. You'll have to carefully pry it off.

Thanks for the info. I carefully pulled up a little on the thing and it is being held in place by what looks like a small 1/4" thick hunk of foam with adhesive on both sides. I'll put some power to the unit and measure the voltage at the mobo jack side and wire the new battery accordngly.

Guess I'll have to get the old soldering iron out. I would rather just get the proper battery with it's cabling attached and plug it in. But I'm not having any luck findng a source. Pretty sure I can get a regular CR-2032 just about anywhere they sell batteries.

Don't let the battery get too hot.
Apply some lead with the soldering iron on the battery surface. Put the wire (already with some lead) over the battery lead and put apply the soldering iron on the wire. Just one or two seconds.

Did you not see the Amazon link? They make these batteries FFS. Don't mess around with a soldering iron and what not. Use a small flat head or a spatula used for cellphone repair and remove the foam. Replace battery. But, the connector needs to be the same. Unplug the battery and taker a pic. I need to see it.

It's the same old same old standard issue 2032...

I made one myself for my laptop following the procedure which I did google.

The battery still runs in my old HP laptop. As it's man-made. I preferred a higher capacity one as long as its geometry size fit-in.

They all have different connectors. So the OP will have to verify which one is needed.
