It all started because i was getting BSOD with my new home built computer. see this tread for details on that:

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/156505-5-bsod-4-weeks-new-build.html

i was suggested to uninstall AVG with Guru3D - Driver Sweeper however i read it as just: "Run Guru3D - Driver Sweeper". so i did and cleaned everything it found without really looking too hard at it. I thought i was doing as instucted but.... I wasn't
I was also told to reset my BIOS to its defaults. So i did when rebooting after running Driver Sweeper.

upon rebooting windows started a disk check. it was going crazy inserting Indexes and deleting files. i kinda freaked out thinking a virus might be deleting my files or something wrong was happening and i did the grand mistake of hard shutdowning down my computer by holding down the power button in the middle of a disk check. Im not sure if this really made a differance since it was deleting tons of files anyways. but never the less when i rebooted and skipped the disk check, many files were half gone.

this is a good time to explain my setup: i have my windows on a seperate SSD and all my programs and storage on a RAID 1 mirror set up across 2 partitions. RAID is set up like this:

2x 2tb SATA HDD's in RAID 1 w/ 2x partitions: P: Programs ~200gb and S: Storage ~1800GB

many programs were not working and lots of but the only important thing i lost is some Recordings of my band i did this past week. everything else was backed up. im pretty good about backing up stuff but this happened inbetween my weekly back up.

I ran disk check again and it gets unexpected errors and stops part way through the chkdsk (it still tries everytime i boot windows before windows boots).

Some of the codes i got:

Code:
Inserting an index entry into index $0 of file 25 (crazy amounts of these espcially on S:)

deleting index entry ______________ (many differnt things written after that. way too many to write)

in stage 2 0f 3 on P partition: an unexpected error occurred (696e647863686b2e 12d8) or (696e647863686be e0b) and a few others. if need be i can type some more after i run more failed CHKDSK's.

deleting corupt attribute record (128, "") or (160, $I30) etc...

correcting error in index $0 for file 25
I mean it did alot of things i wasnt sure what it was doing.

I have ran some free recovery programs such as "pandora recovery" and "recover files" from cnet, to try to recover deleted files but it either wasn't there in those programs or the ones that were said they had been overwritten and would be corrupt anyways. i tryed to get a few wav files back from my recordings but they didnt play in winamp :(

i tried reinstalling some drivers. that didnt do anythng.

I tryied taking out one of the HDD's and putting it in my other computer running XP. when i used it with just SATA cables it didnt work at all. said it "failed to initialize the disk. press (g) to continue" or something of that nature. and windows didnt see it at all. but if i used an IDE to SATA adapter it would reconize it, said it was running properly, when viewing it in disk manager it said it was Healthy and all one large partition (even though there is 2 partitions on it) as DISK 0 Basic online (GPT protective Partition) but had no drive letter nore anything under file system. its color was blue (primary partition). right clicking only allowed "properties".

right now im about to run knoppix to see if i can do anything there.

windows runs great but my RAID is messed up any chance of recovery? or should i just reformat the RAID drives and lose what i had? all i want is my recordings back.

WOOT! got my files back. I had to unplug one of the hard drives in the RAID and CHKDSK recovered all my files! o man time to celebrate. then back to the BSOD.

btw i tried disabling RAID in bios and that didn't work. i had to physically disconnect one of the hard drives.

thanks for your advise though Mike.

Hi Guys,

I have a similar issue, i was setting up 2x 2TB HDD RAID (one had data in it, the other was new, had a handful of files) – was trying to set it up as RAID-1. On nForce4 chip RAID controller. Windows 7 sits on a third drive.

1.Set it up in BIOS
2.Set it up in RAID controller as one array
*did not rebuild*
3.While booting up Windows7 and it went into a chkdsk.
4.Chkdsk of the drive with data started to show

'Deleting index $0 from file 25' repeatedly, like 100+ times when i thought something's not right so i reset the PC.

5.Turned off RAID
6.Booted into Win7, it still offered CHKDSK, skipped CHKDSK
7.After booting – I saw that the HDD with files in it showed as empty. While the HDD with some files were fine (the one i skipped).
8.*the world became dimmer for some reason*

It's not hardware related as both drives are new (<6 months).

Any ideas?

Should i just let it run and 'delete all these index $0'? The files will be ok?
