Need help buying new router!

Which brand of router do u prefer? Linksys, Belkin, TRENDnet, or netgear? My 2 other dlink routers malfunction and i need a new one.

Sorry to hear your other 2 D-Link routers malfunctioned...personally I prefer D-Link over other brands, and their drivers work well with Windows 7.

I had good luck with Netgear. It is very easy to set up which is also important. With Linksys I had more trouble, but the router worked ok.

It's like all things you can't really say what's best everyone has their favourite and some work better with some connections than others. I'd find out what others are using with your ISP's service and see which are more reliable.

Another way is to ask your friends what they are using and why they selected that brand.

All my friends don't care about the brand of their router (they are not very techy), let alone know what is the brand of the router they have.

The router from my ISP cost $150-200$ CAD to buy and $4.50-$7.00/month for rent.

man choosing a router is harder than choosing clothing and deodorant (lol). I have to buy one tomorrow, going to ask the people at best buy for advice/suggestions.

Thats ridiculous. Many ISPs let you get a router for free, as long as you return it when you end service with them.

I use a Linksys router. Once we got it working right, we haven't had any issues with it since. What gave use problems was Linksys wireless cards. My friend has a D-Link and has had no problems with it. He just plugged it in and was ready to go.

I bought a Linksys wireless N router WRT120N. The reviews for this product is bad. Am going to see if it's as bad as the reviews says.

Linksys reviews are almost always poor. They take some extra work to get working right sometimes. Also, I always try to check the reviews before buying.

2. You bought it anyway
3. Now you are testing a bad product to see if it is as bad as the reviews!

I think what you're missing is that he most likely bought the router, then checked the reviews online. I've did the same thing with my external HDD lol.

No. I went to the store planning to buy a different external drive. They sold the last one right before I got there. I then chose the one with the best deal (1TB for $100). I read the reviews and there were plenty of bad ones. Then I came across a couple saying the drive got hot and to buy a cheap fan to place near it. I did that and downloaded a program that could read the SMART info for me. The drive got up to ~55C with no fan after 45 minutes. I turned the fan on and it was back down to 35c in 15 minutes. I always use that fan now, and I haven't had a problem.

I bought the product b4 reading the review. BTW Cisco network magic pro says that i don't have a antivirus installed and do i have to use that program? If i uninstalled it will it mess up something?

Yes i have set it up, it was easy as setting up my other 2 dlink routers. I don't know about the range difference between the linksys WRT120N and dlink DIR-615 since I haven't use wireless in a long time. The only bad thing about the linksys wrt120n is that it doesn't support all the features of wireless N (doesn't have b,g, or n wifi certified logo) . Also IMO when you go into your router by typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your web browser, dlink's router is better because they explain what is each option and the linkysy router doesn't.
