I have a gaming laptop ASUS, which i bought a month ago. Windows 10.

I use Avira free anti virus & MalwareBytes free version to run scans once a week.

But now i want to go for a paid version of anti malware along with using the avira free anti virus. I was keen on buying MB 3.0 premium version but i saw many complaints related to the latest version on their forum. I too got some bugs with MB 3.0 free version so decided against it.

Now, I am thinking about going for Emsisoft antimalware. But I saw some tests ( like AVTest ) which concluded that emsisoft does not block much threats & slows down the system. Is that true? Can it be trusted to protect my system fully?

& the only difference between Emsisoft Internet Security & Emsisoft Antimalware is that EIS includes a firewall. But isnt windows firewall safe enough to use? Do i actually need the Emsisoft firewall to complete total protection?

And is EIS an antivirus as mentioned in their website? So it means it is going to clash with my avira AV & I need to uninstall Avira completely?

In case EIS acts like an anti virus, I should not go for other anti malware with real time protection like MB premium, or zemana premium which can clash with it right? Maybe i should use all these as on demand scanners alongside EIS?

What am i allowed to run beside EIS? ( IF it is necessary to have another layer of protection besides EIS )

Or maybe i should go for some antimalware other than EIS?

And what is this VoodooShield that i hear about? I dont seem to understand what it is, no matter how hard i try. Can someone please explain?

Can someone please help me out on this. Thanks in advance!

Hello the only software that's been on this system is MSE, Malewarebytes, and Superantispyware all free versions and they work great together. If you really want a paid version I would go with Superantispyware...

RE: VoodooShield. If you don't understand it then don't use it. It requires some configuration and training. I've been using it for three years. Basically it doesn't allow any new (new to your machine that is) executable or script to run without determining if it's safe to run. Known threats are blocked. For anything else you get a prompt to allow, block or sandbox. The sandbox is not the same as a traditional sandbox - it's aim is to determine file safety so it can run unknown files in a sandbox then report on safety using it's artificial intelligence scanning engine and will display results and advice.

RE: ZAM Pro. I've got a lifetime pro licence and have been running it alongside Comodo CIS with no issues. Can't comment on EIS as I only use their on demand scanner.

I use Emsisoft AM, which includes an AV engine, for some time now; I get numerous alerts weekly - so I do not think it's missing much. To me, AVs and AMs run a continuous (never-ending) horse race, A be in front, later B will be in front, later A again, later C, later B again...and so on. I believe if you stick with one of the consistent Top Ten AV and likewise for AM, you'll be just fine. Windows Firewall, from Windows 7 and newer, is all that most need. Only those in the Callender or Dalchina (eightforums) class will use the upper-level materials.

Thanks a ton for this :)

BTW, do you use Emsisoft AM along with any other security software? Or running EAM as the main security software will just be enough, along with some other on-demand scanners?

Okay. Thank you for both the links. I will read all this & try to understand what Voodooshield truly is. In case i cant, then i wont use it. :)

Comodo Internet Security along with Zemana AM pro? Sorry for my stupid questions, but dont they both offer real time protection? Wont they clash with each other & slow down the system?

Thanks again.

HitmanPro, HitmanPro Alert, WinPatrol trio, BillPStudio TaskCatcher, Spybot Anti-Beacon, Unchecky. I think that covers it. :)

Actually ZAM Pro works fine alongside other AV's but my personal preference is to disable real time protection in ZAM and use it as an on demand scanner as well as using the right click context menu to scan any suspicious files.

I forgot to mention, the present inventory includes Spywareblaster and Ghostpress.

Having posted that list, be aware that I did not always use that group!
Over the years, I have used various free and pay-for programs, AV, AM, and so on. Some time ago, I had AVG AV buried in the graveyard, ready to resurrect if needed all the while rotating on a quarterly basis Avast AV and Avira AV; with Comodo Firewall & SuperAntiSpyware looking on. As time passed, I gradually shrank the inventory...down to its present level.

You will do somewhat likewise, you will try and test various products, free and pay-for, until your computer settles in and works aok with a particular collection of AVs, AMs, etc.

Spywareblaster & ghostpress. Very keen to know what they actually are, & what they do. :)

Ok I understand. Again, thank you so much. For novice users like me, getting to hear tips & advise from experts like you, really means a lot. thanks a ton for your time & advise :)
