Ok, so let me start off with my spec:

Windows 7 Pro X64
Intel I7
16GB Ram
NVidia GeForce GTX 750ti (latest driver)
liquid cooled core
1 x SSD
1 x HDD (storage)

Now my PC is custom a year old, the OS was done by me. I have had no issues until this error started, no new hardware installed, it started about 2 months ago.

So the issue, my PC will randomly restart, you could be mid email or opening Google chrome (this is important and I will come back to this later) the Event log shows an error ID of 41, which is "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" no other logs, so not much use there, so I don't think this points to an OS issue

so what have I done?

-had the PC sent back to the shop they stress tested it, and all tests came back as no issues

-I imaged the SSD and HDD using Acronis replaced both drives, random restart still happens

-ran both chkdsk /f C: and Memory Diagnostic tool, both fine

-unplugged all USB devices and changed keyboard and mouse

after all this it still restarts, it could do nothing for 3 days, then restart 5 times in one day.

now I know you will say its overheating... nope the core is a steady 50°C - 65°C (which is optimal)

So it really doesn't like Google Chrome, if I open it, it will restart the PC 5 out of 10 times, almost instantly within a second of chrome opening. using internet explorer it still restarts but not as much. it has restarted using Adobe also

I am a decent tech savvy but have no idea why?!?!?!?!?

I do not think this is an OS issue as no blue screens or logs showing an issue. I don't want to re-install the OS!

I also need to say, my friend bought the identical machine, exact same build, OS setup same time etc, he does not have the issue, if it was a BIOS or chipset issue, wouldn't he see it?

Hi,
Hardware is not created equal :)
Sounds like either a power supply or ram issue
Use the link above my signature to fill in your system spec's page
All you state is I7
They made many :)

Ordinarily I would suspect the PSU as well, but if Chrome is a factor that points to the RAM. Try pulling one stick at a time. Also, the BIOS flash is a good thing to do on GPs.

You also could run Linux off a USB stick, which would exonerate the Windows install completely - or not.

Ok. So little update. But all it does is muddle the water! If I turn off every night. And back on when I start work it doesn't happen. It appears if left on too long it could be the issue. So maybe memory?!?!?! Sounds like a heat issue but it's not overheating!

As me and my colleague have the same PC with exact same build. I'm going to pull his memory and swap with mine. Then leave on and see what happens. But agree. Looking more like memory issue

It doesn't have to overheat, it only has to think it's overheating. Throw a diagnostic on it, such as speccy, and see what the sensors say.

Ok. So update. I normally leave on all the time. But if I turn off before going home, and back on next morning the issue doesn't appear. I will run these tests and feedback updates

If one does enough heave load programs during the day even 16 gb of ram could load up.
A reboot clears the ram and thing will back to normal.

Just a thought
