Solved need suggestions on new hardisk

lol thats true but unfortunately there are few choices available at my place... and thus we only have like hitachi, seagate, WD and Samsung ... but its not the latest model... so its quite hard to cross by the ones uve recommended.. some friends suggest me to go with Hitachi .. any complains u have heard?

Sure. I have heard complaints about Hitachi.

And Western Digital, Samsung, Seagate, Fujitsu, and the rest of them.

So what? They are all fallible and you won't find an answer.

If your failed drive was a Western Digital, you would be considering a Samsung as a possible replacement. Signifying not much.

I have 3 x 1TB Seagate Barracudas 7200.12 running well for a year or so with 0 reallocated sector count. I believe the 7200.11 was a bit of a problem for Seagate.

^That Hitachi is probably as good as anything else. Hitachi makes a lot of enterprise storage, but in the end that doesn't matter much either as Seagate makes lots of enterprise storage as well.

I've had good luck with Seagates myself, but wouldn't have touched a 7200.11 model of the Seagate Barracuda if Seagate sponsored me. Each brand without a doubt has had some lemons.

okay thanks... i dont think i can easily find the black ones here.... cause in my place the choices are so limited... i think i can only get the blue ones..

I find Here in Indonesia, WDC Black 2TB, 7200RPM, SATA III, 64MB Cache is still Priced around USD235. I guess it might be less there in Brunei.

Don't know when will the price make us smile?

I have a few Seagate drives and have not had any problem with them, even have a 7200.11 (after the fix).
Have a couple Western Digital drives, one of them failed but I still recommend them. As mentioned all manufacturers drives have a certain percentage of failures.

All the drives you have mentioned are good quality drives, you'll just have to pick one.

A person does tend to buy the model HDD they have had success with. In my case, I have never had a Western Digital HDD fail on me and have used them for years. The only Seagate HDD I bought failed on me within 6 months, and 1 of the 2 Hitachi HDDs I have owned also failed. I'm not saying that Western Digital is better than the others, its just that Ihave had better luck with them.

Great thanks for all the suggestions... i think im gonna go for Western Digital first, then Seagate then the Hitachi... is it true that the WD Blue does not have the 1.5TB ryte? i have googled it up no result about it being 1.5tb

It's odd to me to see a person who experiences so many hard drive failures, but I see it from time to time on forums. I am almost completely opposite of you, I have owned Maxtors, Conners, IBM Deskstars, Seagates, Western Digital, Samsungs, and the only physical failure that I ever had was an old Maxtor. I've pretty much retired my drives due to slow speeds or insufficient capacity over the years...but flat out failures are almost unheard of for me.

I'm always surprised when I read a NewEgg review and find a particular person who seems to have ordered 15 hard drives and 8 of them are DOA. Makes me wonder if they know what they are doing, or whether they have a bad power supply, motherboard or electrical power in their house. For me personally, my machines all run on a UPS...so power is always available and well regulated.

I tend to agree with PParks. I wonder also about some of the reviews. I have lost 4 hard drive over a period of 25 years and they were all Western Digital Blues. I run several seagates, samsungs and Western Digitals. I have had no problem with any of them. But, we all know that in technology all parts go bad or wear out, and just because you have a failure does not mean that all components of that brand are bad. And yes, I have a Western Digital Blue that I use now.

So i saw some seagate hardisk today its barracuda and barracuda green .. The problem is i dont know where to look for that 7200.12 or 7200.11 on the disk? Where can i look for it?

Depending on where you look, it is usually in the description or on the label. it is the firmware version. Here on Newegg is an example

Yes it can. On the white paper label. Usually I believe Seagate's is in the top right corner. at least mine are.

The 7200.11 were problematic, but the 7200.12 seemed to correct those problems.
