Need VGA/SVGA Cable 1080

So can I go to Best buy and buy a normal VGA cable or SVGA cable, and if its not missing any pins, it will work to full 1080 resolution on my 1080p capable Proscan TV?

zzz2496,

Please provide us with ANY video card or PC that outputs these resolutions over a VGA cable and meets the HDCP requirments for HD Movies.

I'm quite intrigued.

While vga can/does support high resolutions, no vga card can output hdcp.

Yes, you will be able to use a regular VGA cable to output 1920x1080 resolution, this is what you want, right?

zzz2496,

Please provide us with ANY video card or PC that outputs these resolutions over a VGA cable and meets the HDCP requirments for HD Movies.

cclloyd9785,

No.

Go try ANY VGA cable with a Dell 2407WFP/2408WFP, that's VGA connection and you will be able to output 1920x1200, well over Full HD requirement. If you read my post earlier, you'd know that HDCP are ONLY FOR DVI/HDMI. VGA, a legacy port is not HDCP capable, since it's using analog video signals...

And if I'm reading the Thread starter's question correctly, he/she only wants to output a 1920x1080 video over VGA, NOT to play a Blu-ray disk over VGA cable. Remember, HDMI/DVI with HDCP capability only needed if you want to play Blu-ray or any HDCP protected content on computers (and you'd need the proper software/hardware combination too).

If he/she wants to play Blu-ray over VGA, then if he/she read my post earlier that should pop another question...

zzz2496

Edit: Don't mix outputting 1920x1080 with HDCP requirement, two of those are from 2 completely different aspects. Resolution = the image/video, HDCP = encryption to protect the image/video (and audio if HDMI is used). You can output 1920x1080 WITHOUT HDCP it's been done in computer world for a long long time. I repeat, HDCP only needed if you want to play Blu-ray or any other content that are protected by HDCP encryption.

Let me get this straight, do you think the connector (display/graphic card/cable) needs to be HDCP compliant to be able to output 1920x1080? I'm not saying Full HD, because the thread starter says exactly like this:
[URL="http://www.sevenforums.com/member.php?u=35753" said:

Does anyone know where I can get a VGA/SVGA cable that supports 1920x1080? or 1900x1080.

I need it from

amazon.com
bestbuy (or the .com)
or staples (not the .com)

Those are the only avalible places.
He/she didn't state that it must be HDCP compliant. And yes, I've read his specs. I don't think I confuse him in any way...

One more thing, you can watch unprotected HD movies over VGA. HD movies = the video image will have 1080p resolution, the audio will not. For now, I haven't found anything that can "grab" DD Tru-HD or DTS-Master audio track off a Blu-ray... I hope the Blu-ray backup capability will finally allow that to happen.

He's connecting to an HDTV.
So what if he connects to a HDTV? If the HDTV's VGA connection supports that resolution (1920x1080), it will show that resolution... HDTV does not mandatory need HDMI to output 1920x1080. HDTVs need HDMI to output Blu-ray movies... Please don't mix those things up. 1920x1080 is not always HD movies protected with HDCP (Blu-ray movies).

zzz2496

Edit: you can display Windows desktop at 1920x1080, that doesn't need HDCP. You can play games at that resolution over VGA, that doesn't need HDCP. HDCP is required to play Blu-ray movies off the Blu-ray disk, with a Blu-ray software player.

I am officially lost...

zzz2496

Edit: I don't know his TV, the VGA cable is capable to display 1920x1080, that's about it...
If the TV isn't capable of displaying 1080p over VGA, then he can't use VGA, but that doesn't mean VGA can't display that resolution. The thread started by him/her asking a VGA cable. That's what I answer. If the TV can't display that resolution, then the fault is on the TV, not the cable.

cclloyd9785,

I'll summarize...

First you need to check if your TV is capable of receiving 1920x1080 over VGA. The VGA cable it self is capable of displaying over 2048x1536 pixels, the limiter would be the TV input stage.

You asked for a cable, so I answered the cable is capable, your display adapter is capable, the last stage would be to check your TV for it's capability to display 1920x1080 over VGA. Not all HDTV capable (or rather it's limited by the manufacturer) displaying 1920x1080 resolution over VGA.

I thought it safe to assume that he has an HDTV to watch HD content...I also am quite sure he is not going to connect an HDTV using a D-Sub 15 connector (VGA) and have it show HD content.

It's not about what the spec says - it's reality...

True, but sometimes people do other things when they connect their PCs to HDTV, I for example use my 42" HDTV to play games, I could care less about HD movies. My dad connects his Atom box to his 40" Samsung to browse web, he said "I can read the text, it's huge, much larger than my 22" monitor....". Assumption is good, but at times it might fail you :). I prefer giving other users the basic knowledge and let them decide by them selves.

I said i was fine with 1080i, as I know my monitor can display that, because my Xbox plays that.

How would I be able to find out if my TV is capable of displaying 1080 through VGA.

And are we sure that the 2 missing pins in my cable arent affecting it?

Finally, Would a VGA to HDMI or DVI adapter would work?
