Hi there,

I was told my key that came along with the HP Probook won't work with my already existing Windows 7 Professional disc. Therefore I have to obtain a copy of OEM disc to make it work. My distributor simply refused to help, and I also refuse to buy from them anymore.

HP didn't want to help either.

So how? I want to reformat this laptop - it's full with bloatware.

Hi thanks for your response.

But I really want to reformat and reinstall everything myself. That's the issue. Using Factory reset/ recovery disc defeat this purpose.

You should be able to download an ISO for your Windows version from My Digital Life dot info.

Burn it to a DVD.

Then install with it, using your existing Product Key.

take the right language and right bit version!! So x86 or x64. Is professional (what you want) not listed? Take another one for example ultimate. That other version has all versions (only hidden). Unhide with ei.cfg removal utility: winisoutils - Windows ISO Disc Image Utilities
after that burn on dvd and install.

Be sure to delete all partitions during win7 setup. You want a fresh restart. Otherwise you keep the old partition layout!

What hp probook do you have? Do you have a driver dvd/cd?

I'm sure it is windows 7 pro 32 bit English - as there's a SOA in the back of the laptop.

If I use that ISO, would I be able to enter the key and activate Windows online?

Thanks for the responses!

so this is Englisch 32bits professional with Service pack 1 included. Works without any problems!! As long as you have a valid professional key on COA sticker.

As you already hsave a Windows 7 Professional DVD, you should be able to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade by going to Start>All Programs>Windows Anytime Upgrade.

When you're asked for a product key, just use the one that came with your copy of Win 7 Pro.

For activation, you can use the automated activation telephone number.

Click Start and type slui.4 exe then press Enter to run the command.

Follow the wizard's instructions and you should be good to go.

Yes I do have the driver CD, for probook 4431s. Even if I didn't, getting drivers is far easier than getting OEM disc. xD

Thanks for the supports peeps. It is frustrating when the manufacturer and distributor BOTH aren't helpful at all. Glad I have community I can depend on.

You shouldn't even need a new disc, to be honest. I'm not sure why anyone would anymore, but don't put your key in during the install. Install the OS, get it up and running, and then use your legit key. It should activate just fine.

The drivers are all in the Win7 installer which I linked for you above, then quickly updated via optional Windows Updates. Only if there are drivers missing after several rounds of Updates will they need to be imported from the Support Downloads webpage for your model.

I would not change out any other drivers unless performance dictates doing so, e.g. low resolution from Standard VGA (placeholder) driver with nothing newer provided.

You will find all your drivers in C:\Swsetup backup for you do a clean install.

Assuming it is still on the drive and for the same OS. The best bet would be to just download the latest drivers from HP's site and have them handy on a flash drive.

Agree. SWSetup may well be outdated from what is given by installer, optional Updates, then the HP Downloads webpage for your model.

I would only import the drivers which are not given by the installer or quickly updated by optional Windows Updates. Changing out drivers across the board can lead to performance problems since Win7 is the authority on what drivers it wants used.

But it's good to have your wireless driver on the stick in case it's needed to get online quickly, and there may be others missing in Device Manager after several rounds of Updates.
