Netgear Adapter Won't Work

Hey Guys, here's my situation:

Just installed windows 7 64 bit.

I'm using a pci wireless adapter chip, Netgear wg311v3 I installed the netgear driver automatically, and then installed the netger smart wizard. However, the smart wizard will not start up. I've done some research, and apparently netgear doesn't make 64bit drivers. I've also tried using the chipset driver which is a Marvell 88w8335. But I may not have used the right driver.

To sum it up:
I have a netgear wg311v3 adapter. Running W7 64bit. It won't run the wizard.

What should I do? Do I need to go back to 32 bit?

Thanks.

Dean

Hello JokerSmoker Welcome to the Se7enforums!

You may not find any past XP/Windows Server 2003 unfortunately since this seems to be a common problem for many. Unfortunately there is 64bit Vista support with the latest actually last going back to February 2008. Answer

In order to run the adapter on 7 you will need the 32bit 7 that will work with the 32bit XP/Vista update seen there.

Hello,

I actually have the exact same problem, and managed to partially solve it by downloading the Vista x64 drivers for the Marvell chipset used in the WG311v3.

First be sure to remove the crappy Netgear software you might have tried to install in the first place.

You then need to locate the drivers (MRVW13C.sys for me) and the inf you need in the Marvell package, and then point the "Add new hardware" wizard to the folder you placed the driver in. Not sure I'm clear there.

But the issue is that the driver is not signed by Microsoft, so you'll have to enable the "Test Mode" to allow the driver to load when windows start. See there for how to do that : Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b - NGOHQ.com

I had it working so far, pretty well, except for the "Test Mode" in the bottom right of my screen.

But recently I Had to reinstall Windows 7, and I saw in the optional updates proposed by Windows Update a "Marvell Driver for Netgear WG311v3" (note this is the Marvell driver, not the Netgear one), so I was like "Yay, problem solved", EXCEPT this is the exact same driver I spoke about above, so it won't load either. Personally, I would expect a driver proposed by Windows Update to work, or at least LOAD, but apparently that's too much to ask. Isn't there a way to have this driver signed once and for all?

No thank you! Sorry I'll run XP Pro in the new XP Mode rather then stepping backwards into a now sadly outdated version.

With any 64bit Windows and older adapter of any you may have to actually buy something newer that at least sees XP Pro 64 or Vista 64bit support. The problem isn't with 7 but manufacturers not wanting to provide updated drivers for the newer Windows in order to sell newer models.

I ran into that problem with two ISPs only still seeing only 2000/XP drivers written in 2002! Nothing newer!
