Netorking between 7 and xp;Cant get it right

Hi,

I installed windows 7 on a second comp of mine and i am having the hardest time getting them to share files between each other.on the xp computer i am able to access the public folders on the win7 comp and connect to my router.the c drive and desktop i enabled to be shared shows but when i click on it i get a error saying i dont have permission & network path cant be found.however on the windows 7 comp i can access the folders i enabled to be shared on xp jus fine.

can anyone help?

Try this

go to run...

type gpedit.msc

select Windows Settings under Computer Configuration

select Security Settings

select Local Policies

select Security Options

go to > Microsoft network client: Send unencrypted password to third-party SMB servers...set it to ENABLED


try to access stuff now.

try also:

Go to Network and Sharing Center, Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options-> Advanced Sharing Settings.

Scroll down to Password Protected Sharing and select "Turn off password protected sharing"

Thanx milhouse,ima try that out later on tonight.
I should of posted more info but i deleted the homegroup network i set up,because i read you didnt need it to share files between the computers and it wasnt helping me any i still can access my xp files from 7 but not vise versa unless i put it in a public folder
However i do have it set to no password n i have share files enabled.hopfully milhouses method will work

I have not tried pinging but i can view n transfer my files on xp from windows 7,alltho i enabled the share option for the windows 7 desktop folder i see it on xp under network places but when i click on it it says not accessible dont have permission.i do not have sp3 installed on xp on sp2

well i am able to share now.what i did was right click on the desktop folder n set it so everyone can access.tho now it seems to take longer to send files between my 2 computers then it did before.thanx for the help guys
