Network can't detect wireless Samsung TV

I have an Acer Aspire D255e running Windows 7 Home Premium edition 32bit. I upgraded the memory to 2 GB to handle the Samsung Allshare streaming software. I have a Samsung LED TV with the wireless dongle (Samsung brand) that connects it to my Belkin 594 router. Plug and play are enabled on both the router and the TV so connecting the TV to the network was easy. I was able to start using Netflix immediately.

When I go to Add a Device in the control panel my netbook can't detect the TV. It never appears on a list of devices that can be added. When I go to the Network and Sharing Center and look at my full network map I see an icon for the TV shown below




When I mouse over the PC icon I see both an IP address and a MAC address for the device. For the TV there is only a MAC address; there is no IP address listed.

It seems like the Windows 7 network did detect the TV to an extent because it's on the network map, but not completely because it can't be detected by the add device utility. None of my digging around the web has given me any clue why the device can't be detected and added, expecially if plug and play worked to allow me to connect to the Internet and watch Netflicks, and I can see the device with its Mac address on my network map.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to force the network to detect and add the TV?

Hiya pal, and welcome to the forums
Try setting the IP address manually on the samsung TV
ie.

ip address 192.168.x.x (same range as you network)
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.x.x (router IP)

dns 192.168.x.x (router IP)

No manual settings

Thanks for replying so quickly. I checked the TV set up and found no way to manually set IP addresses. Everything is automatic, but the ip addresses it assigns are correct. The TV gets a unique address (the same one no matter how many times I repeat setup), subnet, gateway and dns addresses are exactly what I would enter manually.

What has me stumped is why the TV can find the Internet to get to Netflix and I can see it on the Win 7 network map, but it won't come up as a detectable device. I've checked firewall settings in both Windows and the router to use plug and play, and I've tried to enter the correct port settings in the router virtual servers to allow upnp through. I'll admit I'm confused about how upnp works with firewalls, and that may be the problem. But everything went so smoothly with setting up the TV and router with plug and play and I've set up a printer connection through the router to this Windows netbook with plug n play so it seems that the router and Windows firewalls shouldn't be getting in the way.

Is there anything I can do in Windows networking settings instead of on the TV to enter the TV ip address and get the netbook to see it?

There is an option to set it manually ...

I presume you are trying to stream from your netbook to the Samsung TV ?

I have exactly the same problem, and i guess the problem is with windows 7, because i have a laptop with windows vista and the connections with both TV and windows are perfect.

The problem is with windows 7, but now to find out is the trick.
