Big trouble this time,

so i installed new bios software for my compaq laptop from the offical site (exidently i wanted to install new wireless network adapter drivers but i didn't read carefull enough) and now my laptop starts up i see the light burning and hear him running and everything but my screen isn't showing anything. From the biggining my screen stays black and i can't enter anything, i got a backup on a external harddrive and there is also a backup from compaq itself on a partition with vista on it. But i have no single clue on how to acces them with a black screen.

Please help me

If I understand correctly, when powering on the machine you are unable to view anything, not even access BIOS, is that correct?

If that's the case you may have bricked your laptop unfortunately
Either BIOS flash went bad, or you flashed with the wrong BIOS image

A Vista backup/recovery partition will most likely not help you...
You will need to send it to Compaq to be repaired (reflashed).

EDITED: hold on...you're saying you can hear Windows running? Perhaps the unit isn't bricked then...
Try booting in safe mode...

I had this problem with my old desktop. Unfortunately, my solution may not work, but what I did was give it a few hard kicks.

It actually worked. If you're willing to risk it, then you try it.

Otherwise, try reflashing the BIOS via USB (If you can). I've never done this before because my lappy uses software for that, but some can update through USB. Give it a shot.

That's bad. Flashing the BIOS is *always* a hair-raising affair, I hate doing it and it should ONLY be done when it's really necessary. That said...

You may have a paperweight on your hands. BUT, there's a couple of things you can try (others may be able to suggest more).

1 - Unlplug the AC from the system.
2 - Remove the battery from the motherboard.
3 - Walk away for 12 hours.
4 - Re-insert the batter.
5 - Plug in the AC and power it up.
6 - Keep fingers crossed.

On some boards, you can use a USB/Flash drive to boot with if you can install your BIOS Flash utility, you'll need a copy of the ROM, obviously.

Also, some boards allow you to unseat the eprom or simply replace a BIOS chip but I'm not familiar with your particular system.

If that doesn't work and your BIOS is shot, there may not be much you do, except replace the motherboard.

For the record, this is not a Windows 7 issue, whatsoever. ;)

If the CD drive is spinning up, that's a good sign but it won't help since you need to tell the BIOS (which appears to be fried) which drive to boot from. And if the USB isn't being powered..?

Sorry dude, not good.

Start up the machine and keep pressing the F8 key and see if you can get anything that way, I know you said the keyboard wasn't responding but you never know it might be worth a shot.

Dammit it didn't boot, but i notice that my fan will run faster after certain interfalls while its not even running that hot after the battery thing.
Are there any other things i can try, i don't have jumpers (or i can't find them) and i still have warrenty, but i don't think they will repair it although i used the correct bios flash thingy.

Are you able to connect an external monitor to it, may be worth trying just in case the problem is with the screen and not the Bios.

Im back, sorry that it took so long.
Uhm connecting to my tv didn't work and as far as i know the bios chip is intergrated in my mobo. But shouldn't removing the bios battery for some time reset it the bios to the fabric setting?
I think i send it back to compaq and explain school with a nice note from my parents that i couldn't do anything about it.

You don't need a note from mom to RMA your laptop.

If you were flashing your BIOS when it failed, it's certain that is causing your problem. The system will get power but the computer essentially doesn't know what it is. The BIOS contains all the information that tells it to be a computer. Without it, it's a lobotomized piece of hardware and must be RMA'd. If it's under warranty (as you mentioned) contact your warranty holder and get a RMA number, ship it in.

Problem solved.

you could pull the hard drive out of the laptop and put it into a external enclosure so you can get your files off of it on another computer. besides, you dont want to send the laptop in with your data on it anyway.
