What is set as your default Playback Device?

Mine is "Speakers". If you have it set to HDMI (like when it was connected to the TV) it should kill the speakers:

What happens when you unplug the speakers and then plug them back in? When I'm fooling around with mine it always pops up a prompt asking me what I just plugged in. Is that happening for you?

You had speakers, they were just built into the monitor. Assuming you have the plugs in the right place it ought to work. Sorry if this seems obvious, but is there a volume level on the monitor you could check?

Plug a headphone into the rear GREEN speaker jack and see if there is audio in the headphones. That will isolate the problem to either the PC or the monitor speakers.

HDMI audio uses a sound chip on the Video Card. It is separate from the PC sound device.

I don't think he's using hdmi on his desktop comp, only when he used his parent tv, so yes if he's using the green speaker cable he needs to configure the sound.

He mentioned there was sound with HDMI. I was just pointing out that the HDMI audio is separate from the regular PC audio/speakers.
