New driver killed USBs

Make sure you set AHCI, IDE, or RAID to the way you have it set now, if it's not at the default setting.
If you reset BIOS and that value changes from what you have now, it can cause problems.

I use Hybrid sleep, rarely re-boot or shutdown.

My understanding is that resetting CMOS doesn't affect drivers? That's my issue here and it didn't make any changes to my computer except that the BIOS was set to 2002. It still doesn't recognize anything plugged into a USB port.

If you try a ps/2 mouse and still not working then I would try a repair install.
