New Folder problem

Running W7 professional, and am unable to create a new folder. I have gotten around the issue by coping an existing folder and renaming it. Is there a known fix to this issue.

It is not a known issue. If you are unable to create a folder something is wrong.

Where are you trying to create the folder?

We need a lot more details in order to help.

If I click on "new folder" on any directory nothing happens. Please let me know what additional info could help.

What happens when you right click on a blank area and click new-folder?

Is windows a legit purchased version?

When I right click on blank screen I get a choice of a number of other options...create a new folder is not one of them. The W7 came installed on the new computer purchased from ebay and with a Dell Warranty, which has since expired. But I did have a KB failure and was in contact with Dell so the OS is legit. This was approx 2 years ago, new folder option worked at that time, something changed over time.

Just run the sfc scannow test....results were no integrity violations.

Have a read here and read Linda Yan's reply. Cannot create new folder in Windows 7 Seems to have a fix for this same or similar problem.

I tried to follow Yan's procedures but must be doing something wrong. i save the file on the desktop but when I double click on it , it just opens up the file with notepad, and doesn't ask if i want to replace the existing reg.

I also looked at derekimo recommendations above post 6 but not sure exactly what to do I'm not a big computer wizard, need to take a closer look.

I did try Yan's solution but must be doing something wrong. I created the file on the desktop but when I doubleclick on it ,it just opens up the file in notepad.

When you create the .reg file you must include also include the header "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00"

When you save your file make sure you select "All file types" and not "Text files".

My first link is just a .reg file that you download and merge by just right clicking, then merge.

The second one has two .reg files, you want the restore folder one, same as above, just right click and merge,

Brightblessing....sorry to say I'm not sure how to include the header information "win...reg...etc" is that just the first line of text in the notepad document? I did that and saved as all files same results.
