New gpu issue

Hey,
I bought a Gigabyte HD6870 as a upgrade but unfortunately it didn't work on my pc.
Card itself was just fine and tested on friend's pc.
On my pc i didn't get any signal to monitor from it and also even without display it was obvious that pc is stuck somewhere before windows loading stage.
I did test it with another psu even tho i knew it's not the issue but still the same result.

Pc specs:
Intel i3-2120
4gb DDR3 1333mhz
MSI h61m-e33 (b3)
XFX gts250 1gb (previous card)
FSP hexa series 500w psu

I also tried to upgrade bios to latest(before ivy) version, but that didn't help either.
In bios it was switched to PEG(pci-e), before someone mentions that

HD6870 is already returned back for my money, but i still want to know what was the problem since i want to make this gpu upgrade still.
Could it be motherboard that doesn't detect it or something else related to it?

You could have a bad cable from the card to the display.

As mentioned before it doesn't even get to boot up windows, so it's not just the thing that there is no image.
Tried 2 different vga cables with 2 different vga-dvi adapters, also a dvi cable and 2 monitors.
Did quite a few tests and ended up with that it's something in my pc's hardware that doesn't like a new gpu, so id like to know what is it.

What rating in both overall Wattage and the amount of 12v AMPs does the label on both your PSU and the other you you tested? Was the second PSU you tested in your friends machine that worked fine?

On your machine, not even the BIOS start up/initialization worked? Did the PC make any beeping noises other than the single beep?

I'm sure that PSU isn't the issue and yes other PSU came from friends pc.
I get usual 1 beep and I do not get any display image not even post screen

I can tell you right now 500 watt PSU is the issue I have a 6870 as a back up 500 watt is the minimum you need to use a 600 watt or a 550watt should work but you pretty much don't have enough power to power everything read the specs on the box also crossfire you would want to go with a 650 to 700 just saying

I second the PSU issue. What was your friends PSU spec? Never go cheap on the PSU.

I don't think that 500w PSU is a knockback for a system like that, my gts250 has the same requirements as well as I dont think that FSP is from cheap PSU's.
My friend has a 700w PSU, can't tell of anything else about it just that the same PSU started his system fine with same hd6870 inside but it didn't start mine

Maybe I'm not following, your PSU is 500 w and your friends is 700 w and the GPU worked in his and not in yours? It's either the PCIe lane or the power to the GPU in my opinion.

Yeah, since it was working with his PSU we just took it to hook it up with my pc just to put PSU issue aside. If by lane you mean PCIe slot then it is working just fine as I am using my previous card now.

Well it's all academic as you've returned the GPU. Did you try the new GPU in other PCIe lanes if you have them?

Again it's obvious your PSU can't handle that card your friends worked because it was a 700w I am telling you it's the PSU because I had a 5670 that used 400w when I had a 400 it didn't even boot I got a new psu it booted

What box says about PSU requirements usually differs a lot when you do actual IRL tests for it.
And I did mention it few times that the same 700w PSU was used in my pc as well.

I thought the op said he tried his friends 700 w PSU in his system with the same new card that worked while it was in the friends system and when he tried the 700 w in his system it still didn't work. Unless I got that wrong as that's a ton of work to go through.

That is what I read he has a 500 and his friend 700

It's obvious something is left out that isn't being told

So how is it that your friends PSU worked in his but going into your rig it didn't ??? is that what you mean?

I knew that PSU isn't the issue because my gts250 has the same power usage as well as I searched and found that others are using 500w PSU's with similar systems just fine, but I still took his PSU just to be completely sure and I got same result still.

It's an odd situation and I'm not sure just what was happening with your mobo and new GPU but something didn't like each other much....odd.

So far thats the only thing I can say as well that my motherboard didn't liked a new gpu

run the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner to get rid of anything left behind by the NVidia card..
