Solved New Ram, Which Slot?

Ok, I'm thinking about buying this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-Memory-Module/dp/B008E3M4TU) for my PC, I have already got both the blue slots filled. So which one do I put my new slot in to? 1,2,3 or 4 (2 and 4 are available)

Hello RvB Mate it should tell you in the users manual as a general rule and I stand to be corrected it is usually the slot nearest the CPU for stick 1 (slot 1) of 2 sticks and slot 3 for the second stick. But my Asus Z77 (slots 2 and 4) is the opposite so check your manual - or Gigabyte if you can get any sense out of them.

Yes mate I had a look at the "manual" for what it was worth and no mention of what slot to fill first. I suppose if you start with 4 & 3 if that doesn't function then use the others 2 & 1 instead.

Certainly pretty poor info from Gigabyte eh?

If you look close at your motherboard many have the sequence sentenced on the board next to the RAM slots (eg - 1,3,4,2) or you could run the Crucial Scanner this will give you the correct installed and what you can install.

Yep Steph that was what I thought on my board but it turned out to be 2 & 4 for the first sticks which went against what I was used to ie first slot from the CPU and outwards in alternate slots.

It beats me why the manufacturers need to be so convoluted when all that is needed it to number the slots in the order of use. From experience with Gigabyte I know the support is not great. Nice boards but poor back up. So my transfer to Asus at least I had instructions for the RAM stick set up.
