This is for my HP G-62 laptop, Short history on recent issues = upgraded to Windows 10, switched back to Windows 7, have been having issues with it not starting, having to shut it off and restart it daily. I do have an old thread on here.

Purchased from Amazon a Crucial MX500 SSD -- I did a backup of the old hard drive to an external hard drive, then removed the old drive and installed the Crucial. I was originally given the laptop a few years ago which did not operate properly, So I put in a standard hard drive and ordered the 3 installation discs from HP, Windows 7 Home Premium. THAT install went perfectly, years ago.

Now I've installed the Crucial SSD, (but I did not add additional Memory), then used the same installation discs == Disc 1 & 2, and the Application and Driver Recovery CD. One problem is when I get "Administrator Logged On", when I click on it I get "Your account has been disabled. Please see your System Administrator". It goes back and forth between those two. On that screen I see the "Windows 7Home Premium" at the bottom of the screen, and it's a blue screen.
If I shut off the laptop and then start it up, it says something like "Windows is preparing for first use", then a popup window says "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation".

I have done nothing with the backup on the external hard drive, it has not been connected since the hard drive switch.

I'm not real knowledgeable on how to use computers, but can someone steer me in the right direction -- thank you.

How big is the MX500 SSD?

Are the rescue disks in good shape (clean, no scratches)?
Try to reinstall using the rescue disks.

Megahertz07 -- I set the Bios to boot from the CD and reloaded all 3 discs, which also reformatted the drive. The discs are in excellent shape. It definitely acted different this time but everything seems to be up and working. Thank you.

samuria -- I went into the Bios setup and couldn't see anywhere that mentions or comes close to "6gigs and ahci". Nor do I know what that means. But I'm going to try it for awhile, including running the backup restore from the external hard drive.

I went with the SSD drive and Windows reload thinking maybe it might solve the issue of Windows failing to start properly. I figured I'd just reload the program, and then use a backup restore on the files and folders. So I loaded the files and folders and everything is different than it was -- and it leaves a lot of program downloading and setting up. I guess I expected too much out of "backup". With that, I decided to quit being a cheapskate and order the upgrade memory chips and purchase the SATA to USB cable and do a clone transfer to upgrade to the SSD (like Crucial recommends). I've ordered them, the cable arrives tomorrow, hopefully. Will my pc still fight me on starting up?? I have no idea, I may have wasted my money. Oh well, one way to find out. There is no doubt that in life, sometimes the cheap comes out more expensive. PS, I tried to give you a 'thank you', but it said I have to spread some reputation around first.

Sooo, with the HDD installed, I did a clone transfer to the SSD, then installed the SSD and new memory chips. And again, the laptop opens the Starting Windows screen with the fuzzy Windows logo, and then stops. I have to boot it, I've run Launch Startup Repair, and no change.
Then I removed the SSD, installed the HDD, and formatted the SSD to show nothing is on it, reinstalled it, and used the 3 install discs. I didn't load any backup or programs. And again, after the laptop sits for 3 hours or so, it will not start properly.
I went into Device Manager, clicked on the appropriate link as per a Youtube video, and it showed "AHCI". I couldn't figure out anything on the 6 GB/s.
Any clues on what I should do next?? Maybe dismantle the laptop and look for solder problems or wire issues?? Maybe do a clone from my desktop pc which works fine, same Windows 7 Home premium but is Acer, the laptop is HP.
I've been trying day after day, all day, to solve this issue. Also, ran Start Up test 3 times, and the other trouble shooting links in the Bios.

Please confirm
It installs and run on a HDD
Id doesn't install or run even on a cloned SSD from the working HDD.

Have seen here in the forum that some HP laptops doesn't recognize a SSD.
Is your BIOS up to date?
What program did you use to clone?

There are many variants of the HP G-62. Witch is the exactly model?

It had some issues starting up before I switched to Windows 10 -- and then seemed to work properly for several months before switching to Windows 10. I did not have starting issues with Wiindows 10. It seems to be having startup issues ever since going back to Windows 7.
So I purchased the SSD and did a clone using Crucials recommended tool "Acronis". It seems to have done a proper job of cloning. And with the SSD installed, it has the same exact startup issues that it has with the HDD. The screen displays "starting Windows" and it displays the fuzzy Windows insignia -- and then goes no farther. I have to turn off the laptop and then turn it back on. When it displays "Launch Startup Repair", mostly I down arrow and choose to start Windows. I have done "Launch Startup Repair" numerous times and it's never once showed or acted with any kind of correction.

The SSD seems to work properly other than the startup issue.
I don't know how to update the BIOS -- other than through Windows Update.
The exact model is G62-149WM.

Edit -- I did a restart and pushed F10, got into Insyde H20 something something -- apparently it's the BIOS setup, and did not find anywhere for an option to update the BIOS. There was one option of "Setup defaults and Save". But I just exited out.

here is the link for F37 Bios - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52604.exe

Before you run the SP52604, during post hit esc and select to enter BIOS, Check what version you have. If it's much older than F37, under Windows disable antivirus and run SP52604. You can also run it under WinPE (recommended)

I think you and I were typing at the same time. I added an edit in my last post.
I clicked Restart and chose F1, system information -- it shows the BIOS as F.07

Edit -- I clicked on your link and used that system. My BIOS now shows F.37. I'll give that a try and let you know.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I connected the SSD through a USB port, formated all portions of the SSD, then did a clone transfer from the HDD to the SDD. All went well. I then removed the HDD and installed the SDD. Everything looks normal and started properly (except for the speakers which I had to Uninstall, then reinstall the driver then it worked). I've been shutting off the laptop and letting it sit for 3 hours, and then turning it back on. I've done it several times and every time it has worked properly -- until this Monday morning. I shut off the laptop at about 10:00 last night, turned it back on at about 8:00 this morning and it would not start -- I had to boot it and I had it go through "Launch startup Repair" -- it showed no issues. Until this morning, I really thought the issue was fixed. I did check the BIOS version and it does show the one you provided the link for.
Was that just a fluke it didn't start, or will it happen again -- I don't know. I figured I'd test it more.

Edit, add - just had the laptop off for about an hour, and it started fine.

You didn't give us the laptop specs.
- How much memory it has?
- Is the installed Windows 32 or 64 bits?

It's a 64 bit, Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 -- it originally came with 4 GB RAM, now upgraded to Crucial 8 GB RAM. I went on Crucials website and used their "tool" to tell me what Memory and SSD would be compatible with this laptop. And I used Acronis when doing the newest Clone from HDD to SSD.

I shut off the laptop last night at 10 p.m. -- turned it back on at 3 a.m., and it worked fine. I used it for about 30 minutes and then shut it off again. I turned it back on this morning at 8 a.m. and it turned on fine -- BUT, when I used my cordless mouse after I logged in, the arrow moved about one inch and then the laptop froze up. I had to reboot it. It's not the first time it's happened but it's been awhile since it happened, -- and then it was happening with the HDD. This is the first time it froze up with the SSD.
I'm pretty sure I got my discs from HP after I put in the replacement HDD that I got from New Egg (sp). They're in excellent condition, still in the sleeves that they arrived in from HP. What do you think I should do??

It seems that your mouse drivers have an issue.
Try to uninstall the mouse drivers.
Open Device Manager and delete the mouse drivers. Restart and let it search and install the drivers.

You can also run System File Check
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
sfc /scannow

If it finds any corrupted files, fixing or not, reboot and run again

I went into Device Manager, opened up the link for Mice, deleted two drivers, rebooted, and both reloaded successfully.
I went into Accessories, right clicked on Command Prompt and clicked on Run as Administrator -- then ran the scannow, which showed no issues, then I restarted the laptop, and repeated the scannow, which showed no issues, something to the effect of no integrity issues.
I'll continue to turn off the laptop, let it sit , then turn it back on and see if there's any issues. THANK YOU.
