New UPS

Have got a Cyber Power UPS at the moment and I think the circuitry has spat the dummy and rather than go back and get it replaced I shall just get a different brand.

Have had a Belkin before this one and it was atrocious so am looking at something a little more reliable.
Any ideas on a brand I can run up to four machines on at any one time (not all the time)?

Hi ICit2lol, I have an MGE Nova 600 AVR UPS which I have had for over 5 years & it still seems to be working well. It is only small unit for one computer, but it has got me through plenty of power outages, & I have enough time to save & close documents etc. & shut down manually. It does have a USB control cable as well & a software disc.

The Australian agents seem to be Eaton, but I can't seem to get any prices searching the web.

Thanks Bligh 'll give then a look up and it won't matter if it is only one outlet as I can surge board more outlets off it.
Frankly I am a bit disappointed with both the Belkin and Cyber Power as they were not cheap and they were both six outlet units, so I could understand one of the sockets going out but I am beginning to think the circuitry has gone or is going belly up as it is showing me 251 volts in and 273 out and I know the mains is at 251.
Oh well if I can get one of the ones you have suggested I should be right.

Bligh I found the Aussie retailers here http://powerquality.eaton.com/where-to-buy/reseller.asp?result=1 and am going to contact them in Albury, and I guess if ever you need another it has a fairly good sized drop down list of retailers.

I love my CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD, the only apu with true sine wave in it's price range. The Power Panel software is the best I've used. I have a old APC 550es that has been on duty for coming up on 10 years. I replaced the original battery 2 years ago. My 7 year old Tripp-Lite died suddenly a few months ago.

I checked a lot of reviews before buying the CyberPower and after using it for a few months it's the only one i would consider, mostly because of the sine wave output. It is expensive compared to other units. If all you want is a basic back up power long engough to do a clean shut down then you can get by with a $80-50 APC or Tripp-Lite.

I very seldom have a power outage but I do on occasions have momentary power interruptions, with the CP unit providing sine wave I can power my computer for up to 1 hour or it can power my mining op for five hours.

CP has a 3 year warranty, I would get it replaced.

Of course it is common out here for someone to have a dummy spit or spit the dummy or has had a tanty (tantrum) if you have ever seen two year olds in supermarkets who want the candy on the way out and Mum is trying to cope with the screaming brat who is carrying on like a pork chop (having a period of acting stupid sometimes in a loud and annoying manner) you will know what I mean

Yes I will my friend - if I can find the receipt as I know I have a very bad habit of just putting them in drawers and then forgetting where I have put them.
I have priced up the Eaton (MGE) already and they have an enormous range from office sized to home ones and if I cannot find the receipt I shall just have to get one of them. I have picked one out EATON Powerware 5S700AU Usb 420W Line Interactive Ups each $145.75 20 that is mid range home user and about what I paid for the Cyber Power.
Now you mention sine wave and I am now wondering if the power source may have something to do with it as they are constantly "upgrading" our supply around where we live, and I have notice it fluctuates a fair but from time to time.

I notice in your later post that you mention voltage variation in the mains supply. I have run voltage checks here & it varies from 235 volts at times to to 251 volts at other times. Apparently the actual specification is 240 volts +/- 6%, which means anywhere between 225 & 255 volts. Of course the frequency is very rigorously maintained at 50 Hz with a very small error margin. I also think the sine wave of the mains supply would be very good, but maybe a bit spiky as they are constantly switching suppliers to get the lowest prices at any given time, which one electrician told me was "dirty power" & he suggested using surge & filter protectors, which I do, as well as the UPS for the computer.

Yes mate I use multiple surge and filter protector boards for everything and not just the cheap and cheerful ones either as I have had problems with some of the low joule stuff in the past.

The ones I picked out I found were cheaper at PCCG - $115 so might go that way.

You could get a APC and run a few extra batteries hooked into them.
