New Win7 install random reboots...

hi there,

i checked your minidump and it say´s kernal or hal error.
Seems to be a hardware error not exactly pointet at.. the 0x124 only means that the internal prozessor test detected a hardware malfunction.
But at my guess it seems to be a bus related error.
Do you have crossfire activated? What kind of gfx is in your machine?

Greetings

Teita

Nvidia 7600GT - it crashes without the driver installed and with it installed.

SAfe mode the machine doesnt seem to crash.

Webup, out of curiosity, did you follow my suggestion and analyze the motherboard for defects, visually?

Hi
I havent been in front of the machine since then but am going back today for last visit.

I will physically check it over but my suspicion is that the chance of hardware going wonky just after installing Windows 7 is slim. Vista was running fine and crashes started exactly after installing 7.

I have subscribed and paid for the Pro version of Drivermax so I can check all the latest drivers are installed.

I agree that there should be no hardware error after installing w7 and sorry for ignoring your hardwareinfos in that 1 post I answered at work :o

if you run in safe mode everythings fine (nvidia driver is unloaded) - check for driver mug in that system using

http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html

drivers are not as well as they should be for w7 at the moment. better than vista startup, but not realy like with xp. if installing your gfx driver went wrong your pcie bus may cause such BSOD screens till all parts of that driver are removed.

normaly you won´t get a 0x124 in this case but if your bus hangs for a while, the internal prozessor test will create this error sometimes.

give it a try and let us know.

Yeah it was crashing without the nvidia driver installed and just whatever windows 7 was using for the display driver.

I thought it might need the latest nvidia driver so downloaded and installed that but it was no better.

The actual crash I can only describe as like someone turning the power off.
No BSOD
Just instant black screen and then the bios as it powers up again.

Further evidence of blown capacitors. Not saying this is the case, but it fits.

Are these the little cylindrical shaped things on the motherboard?

Yes. Look for brown leaky substance on or near them. Also look to see if the tops are perfectly flat or rounded, bubbling up.

If they are not flat or have brown substance, they need to be replaced. Easier, unless you are good, is to replace the whole motherboard.

I am strongly guessing there is something wrong by things you've said.

Ok I couldnt see anything wrong.

Also ran Windows memory diagnostic and all clear.

Installed Vista business back on the machine and it started crashing again so its not the OS that is doing it.

PC is in at the retailer and their techs are taking a look at it.

Very well. It will be interesting to hear what they say about it whether it be that there's physically nothing wrong or otherwise. So please keep us updated in any case.

Many times, caps can go bad even when you can not detect it by eye. This could have been what happened. Let's see.:D
