I have just gone through a completely fresh install after having a bit of a meltdown. ll went on well, about 12 gb of space used, nothing actually added at this stage but the process of shutdown and restart is painfully slow. My motherboard is set to fastboot, there is nothing in windows startup yet it sits on the windows screen for 5+ minutes before I get to the log in screen.

Absolutely baffled, I was expecting it to be super quick with nothing on it?

Any ideas anyone

Thanks

Hi pks1414,

Welcome to SevenForums!

12 GB seems a lot!

[1] Did you do the clean install from a DVD/USB/ISO/IMAGE?
[2] Where did you get the install media from?
[3] Check to see what the WU's parameter is.
[4] Set it to Never check for updates [Not recommended], and then restart to see if that makes a difference.
[5] Have a look in Task Manager to see what processes is using the most resources.
[6] Did you remove ALL other media [USB's, External HDD's etc] when you performed the clean install?

I hope this helps!

Thank you for replying so quick. To answer your bullet points

1) It was my original Disk
2)Microsoft
3)Already set
4) not much installed yet to check for
5) yes everything was removed

To be honest I'm wondering if it was something to do with the actual install. The original disk was set to gpt so I had to do the shift F10 to perform a clean to get it to install, however it meant it installed on an unformatted drive??

Fast boot and secure boot isn't compatible with win 7. They must be disabled on BIOS.
Open device manager. Is there any yellow alerts of missing drivers?

Hi pks1414,

As Megahertz07 has suggested, you can also you can run my batch script below to produce an output file that tells you what the problem devices are, and the errors associated with them!

Under the heading msinfo32 [MS System Information] - Problem Devices . . ., please run MS_Info32_Find_Problem_Devices.bat, Option [2] from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and then upload the results using the tutorial at the bottom of the above link [Upload to SevenForums . . .] and someone will look at it for you.

INFORMATION: I have written quite a few batch scripts in order to streamline processes, avoid possible typing errors, and save time hunting around for specific Windows and tabs etc. It is just quicker and easier for users to run the batch script and then upload the results for us to look at.

I hope this helps!
